Mr. Holderman died Tuesday night, September 16.” “Gertrude Mary Swinney 1915-2003 Funeral services for Gertrude Mary Swinney, 88, Ottawa, KS, were Sunday, September 14, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at Dengel and Son Mortuary, Ottawa, with Pastor Bruce Beatty officiating. Interment was in Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, KS. Mrs. Swinney died Friday, September 12, at Ransom Memorial Hospital, Ottawa. Gertrude Mary Swinney was born May 22, 1915, at Garnett, KS, the daughter of Ferdinand J. and Sophie M. (Mader) Peine. She lived in Kansas City, KS, from 1939 to 1972, moving from there to Parsons, KS, and then to Ottawa in 1983. Gertrude was a lifelong homemaker. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5901 Auxiliary of Ottawa. Gertrude and Fleetwood Swinney were married June 30, 1939, at Louisiana, MO. Mrs. Swinney was preceded in death by her husband, Fleetwood Swinney, on April 24, 1982; her parents, Ferdinand J. and Sophie M. Peine; her sisters, Dena Anderson, Margaret McGraw, Cecelia Jackson, Albertina Tawney, and Frances Jackson; and her brothers, Joe T. Peine, Willie Peine, and Aaron Peine. Gertrude is survived by her daughter, Mary G. Howard, Granbury, TX; her son, Kenneth F. Swinney, Ottawa, KS; her brother, Raymond Peine, Garnett; her grandchildren, Leslie Roark, Tulsa, OK, Cathy Howard, Dallas, TX, Keely Long, Harrisburg, MO, Jon Swinney, Olathe, KS, and Ken Swinney, Kansas City, MO; and her great-grandchildren, Nate Roark, Sam Roark, Derek Cahn, Jacob Swinney, Janessa Swinney, Lorryn Swinney, and Lexie Swinney. The family received friends on Saturday afternoon, September 13, from 4:00-5:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Mid-America Nutrition Program and left in care of the funeral home.
