Interment was in Colony Cemetery. Mr. Caudell died Thursday, September 18, at his home. Terry Sheldon Caudell was born October 31, 1986, at Iola, KS, the son of Sheldon and Bettie (Culler) Caudell. He was a lifetime resident of Colony and graduated from Crest High School with the Class of 1982. In college, Terry played football at Fort Scott Community College. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and outdoor activities, horseback riding, but especially enjoyed his children and family. He was a member of Colony Community Church. Terry and Tammy Welsh were married July 28, 1984, at Garnett. They later divorced. Mr. Caudell is survived by his parents, Sheldon and Bettie Caudell, Colony, KS; his former wife, Tammy Caudell, Colony, KS; his son, Dereck Sheldon Caudell, Colony, KS; his daughter, Kelcey Jean Caudell, Colony, KS; his sisters, Kathy Holloway and her husband, Garry, Kincaid, KS, Nancy Ellington and her husband, Ed, Colony, KS, and Vicky Hermreck and her husband, Dennis, Modesto, CA; and several nieces, nephews, other family members, and numerous friends. Musical selections included ‘Amazing Grace’ sung by Bob Roush, ‘How Great Thou Art’ sung by Pam Boucher and Sherri Oliver, and ‘Go Rest High On That Mountain’. Casketbearers were Terry’s nephews, Justin Ellington, Jeremy Ellington, Derek Yocham, Ryan Rues, Brent Rues, B.J. Rues, Trevor Freelove, Benjamin Holloway, Westin Holloway, and Judd Hermreck. Honorary casketbearers were Garry Decker, Randy McAnulty, and Mark Wiley. The family received friends on Sunday, September 21, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to Colony Community Church. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.” “Samuel Forrest Carter 1912-2003 Graveside services for Samuel Forrest Carter, 91, Richmond, KS, were Thursday, September 25, 2003, at 1:00 p.m. at Mossey Cemetery, Edwards, MO. Mr. Carter died Monday, September 22, at Richmond Care Center, Richmond, KS. Samuel Forrest Carter was born January 23, 1912, at Kansas City, KS, the third of four children born to T.J. and Gertrude Carter. As a child he grew up in the Argentine area of Kansas City, KS. As a young man, he was employed in the Kansas City area. In 1935, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and served in Minnesota where he was involved in forestry and agriculture. Returning to Kansas City in 1936, he worked for various coal companies. It was while working at one of these companies he met Martha C. Ashunhurst, who was employed as a bookkeeper. They were married on February 19, 1943, at Liberty, MO. To this union was born one child, Walter C. Carter. During the 1950’s and 1960’s, Sam worked for the Sealright Corporation as a machinist and printer. He was a member of the A.F. of L., C.I.O. In 1968, he took early retirement and moved to Kirk C. Colony at the Lake of the Ozarks near Edwards, MO. He and his wife enjoyed retirement at the lake. They were members of the Colony Baptist Church where Sam was a Deacon. Mrs. Carter preceded him in death in March, 1986. Sam is survived by his son, Walter Carter and his wife, Linda, Olathe, KS: six grandchildren; his sister, Nellie Cutler, Kansas City, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family received friends on Wednesday, September 24, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and left in care of the funeral home. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 2: “Helen Leora Bardsley 1923-2003 Memorial services for Helen Leora Bardsley, 80, Garnett, were Thursday, September 25, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at Garnett Presbyterian Church with Rev. George Pasley officiating. Mrs. Bardsley died Sunday, September 21, at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, KS. Helen Leora Bardsley was born on September 1, 1923, to Paul and Bonnie Hazel Winfrey, in Winfield, Kansas. She attended Winfield public schools through grade 12. She was particularly active in forensics and music. She traveled extensively with the local forensics team was musically active as a viola player in the high school symphony orchestra. She graduated from Baylor University School of Nursing in Dallas in 1944 and became a Commissioned Ensign in the United States Naval Reserve Nursing Corps. She was assigned to duty at the Naval Hospital in Balboa Park, San Diego, California. She served until April 1946, at which time she married Lt. J.G. Richard Bardsley of the U.S. Navy Dental Corps. Shortly after her wedding, she was transported to married officers quarters at the U.S. Naval Air Station, Orote Point, Guam. After residing one year in the South Pacific, she returned to the United States, and shortly thereafter she and her husband settled in southern New Jersey. After spending 15 years in West Atlantic City and conceiving three daughters, the couple moved to Linwood, New Jersey, where they resided for 24 years. During her residency in New Jersey, Helen was active in the Mothers Club of West Atlantic City, served as matron of the Charles Mann Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, joined the Daughters of the American Revolution, and was involved in many community projects. Her husband retired from private dentistry in 1987, and they moved to Garnett, Kansas. Helen was always interested in gardening, and pursued several hobbies, especially tole painting, throughout her life in Kansas. She participated in a number of craft shows, was an active member of a bridge club, and was president of VISTA Study Club. She attended Garnett Presbyterian Church and was involved in many volunteer activities, including the Thrift Shop. Helen was a devoted wife and mother, always maintaining an active interest in her community and surroundings. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Mrs. Bardsley was preceded in death by her brothers William Winfrey, Edward Winfrey, and one infant brother; and her parents, Paul and Bonnie Hazel Winfrey. Helen is survived by her husband, Richard; her daughters, Debbie Dwyer and her husband, Marty, of Somers Point, New Jersey, Nancy Rice and her husband, John, of Punta Gorda, Florida, and Marilu Bardsley, of Somers Point, New Jersey; and grandchildren Kim Simmerman, Richard Atack, and Michael Garwood. The family suggests memorial contributions to the church, which may be left in care of the funeral home.
