Interment was in Garnett Cemetery, Garnett. Mrs. Duffey died Monday, October 6, at Richmond Care Center, Richmond. Lela Belle Duffey was born December 8, 1901, near Harris, KS, the only daughter of William Andrew and Mary Jane (Morris) Baber. Lela spent her early life in Anderson County, graduating from Garnett High School in 1921. Preparing to be a teacher, she attended Manhattan State University, Emporia Teachers College, and Ottawa University. She taught all grades in Anderson County one-room schools in the early 1920’s. From 1941 to 1949 she taught the seventh and eighth grades in Richmond, KS. Later she was postal clerk at Richmond Post Office. Lela and Wilbur Porter Duffey were married on May 15, 1923, at the Methodist Church parsonage at Garnett, KS. They moved to Richmond in 1923. They shared more than 37 years of marriage before the death of her husband on May 7, 1961. She was principal of Richmond Grade School from 1945 to 1949, retiring in the Spring of 1949. She was a member of Richmond United Methodist Community Church and had been active in the work of the church, teaching Sunday School and serving the United Methodist Women as a local, district, and conference officer. Lela enjoyed spending time with her husband going to church, fishing, going on short drives and small trips, and spending time with her family. Mrs. Duffey was preceded in death by husband, Wilbur; her parents, Mary Jane and William Baber; and one brother, William Earnest Baber. Lela is survived by her daughter, Betty Jean Sutton and her husband, Lionel, Ottawa, KS; her grandchildren, Douglas Sutton and his wife, Linda, Paola, KS, Marna Riddle and her husband, Butch, Ottawa, and Philip Sutton and his wife, Cathy, Ottawa; her great-grandchildren, Jay and Lucas Riddle, and Kelsey and Ian Sutton; and many nieces and nephews. The family greeted friends on Thursday, October 9, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Richmond United Methodist Community Church or to the Richmond Library. Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Ottawa, is in charge of arrangements.” “Alberta Josephine Sutton 1914-2003 Funeral services for Alberta Josephine Sutton, 89, Garnett, were Monday, October 13, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel with Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment was in Garnett Cemetery. Alberta Josephine Sutton was born May 22, 1914, in Anderson County, KS, the daughter of Jose and Mabel E. (Kennard) Flores. She spent all her life in the Garnett area, attending school in Garnett. As a youth, she was baptized in the First Baptist Church in Garnett. Alberta and Lloyd E. Sutton, Sr. were married August 5, 1933, at Garnett. She was a homemaker and raised a family of six children. Alberta also worked at Seymour’s Packing Plant, City Café, and Manners Restaurant. She also spent many years babysitting her grandchildren. Alberta was a modest person, never asking for anything and always giving to her family instead of herself. Alberta and Lloyd spent several summers camping in Branson, MO, until health problems prevented them from traveling. She did beautiful handwork, knitting and crocheting doilies and afghans for her family. Alberta struggled over 12 years with cancer slowly spreading from one area of her body to another, and it was her wish to die at home. With the loyal, tender, loving care of Janice, Alberta joined her savior on October 7, and was still living at home. Her family will truly miss this wonderful lady. Mrs. Sutton was preceded in death by her son, Vernon Eugene Sutton in 1976; her parents, Jose and Mabel E. Flores; one great-grandson, Ronald Tush, Jr.; an infant sister, Betsy; and one brother-in-law, Gus Hermreck. Alberta is survived by her husband of 70 years, Lloyd E. Sutton, Sr., at Golden Heights Living Center, Garnett; her sons, Lloyd Sutton, Jr., of the home, Dean Sutton and his wife, Lynne, Rantoul, KS, and Gerald Sutton and his wife, Janell, Garnett; her daughters, Jacky Hill and her husband, Jim, Colony, KS, and Janice Meyer and her husband, Edward, Garnett; her sister, Twila Hermreck, Garnett; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and four step-great-grandchildren. Music was provided by Paul Massey, organist, and Karen Revey, soloist. Musical selections included ‘In The Garden’ and ‘Precious Memories’, and ‘High On That Mountain’ as recorded by Vince Gill. Casketbearers were Melvin Kennard, Lewis Kennard, John Hermreck, Glen Hermreck, Tom Hermreck, and Dennis Hermreck. The family received friends on Sunday, October 12, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and left in care of the funeral home. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 2: “Reva Dionne Myers 1914-2003 Funeral services for Reva Dionne Myers, 89, Iola, KS, are Friday, October 10, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, Colony, KS, with Pastor Hubert Brown officiating. An Eastern Star service was conducted by Salem Chapter #4, Iola, KS. Interment is in Colony Cemetery. Mrs. Myers died Tuesday, October 7, at Allen County Hospital, Iola. Reva Dionne Myers was born January 18, 1914, at Yates Center, KS, the daughter of Laffette Lightfoot and Anna Parxede (Girard) Brown. She grew up and lived in Yates Center through the eighth grade. Her family moved to McAllen, TX, where she lived from age 12 to 15. She then moved back to Colony, where she graduated from high school in 1933. Reva and Stanley L. Myers were married January 15, 1936, at Garnett. She then continued to live in Colony for another 56 years. Her husband preceded her in death on July 4, 1987. She moved to Iola in 1997. In 1999, Reva went to live at Arkhaven in Iola. She was a member of Eastern Star for more than 50 years, was a member of the Priscilla Club, and had belonged to the Colony Christian Church since 1935. Music was provided by Evelyn Bunnel, pianist, and Anna Buckland, soloist. Musical selections included ‘Amazing Grace’ and ‘How Great Thou Art’. Casketbearers were Bill Antle, Dale Myers, Gregory Myers, Jimmy Moss, Douglas Myers, and Henry Womelsdorf. Honorary casketbearers were Joshua Myers and Kevin Myers. Also preceding Mrs. Myers in death were her parents, Laffette Lightfoot and Anna Parxede Brown; and her sister, Fern McDaniel. Reva is survived by her sons, Albert R. Myers and his wife, Clara, Manhattan, KS, Eddie L. Myers and his wife, Lucretia, Sapulpa, OK, Jerry W. Myers and his wife, Jean, Kansas City, MO, Randall A. Myers and his wife, Lila, Kansas City, KS, Alan L. Myers, Arlington, KS; her daughter, Ruth A. Womersdorf and her companion, Dennis Franklin, Welda, KS; 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
