McCarty Davey 1911-2003 Funeral services for Opal M. McCarty Davey, 92, Garnett, were Wednesday, October 22, 2003, at 10:00 a.m. at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel with Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment was in Garnett Cemetery. Mrs. Davey died Saturday, October 18, at Covenant Hospital, Plainview, TX. Opal M. McCarty Davey was born October 14, 1911, at Centerville, KS, the daughter of Thomas Bert and Mable Ann (Holloman) McCarty. She grew up in Linn County and was a graduate of Parker High School. Opal and Glenn W. Davey were married January 26, 1931, at Parker, KS. They lived in Fontana in Linn County for 20 years before moving to Garnett in 1978. Opal was a homemaker and worked as a cook at Cadmus Grade School and Holiday Manor Nursing Home in Osawatomie. She had also been an Avon representative and was a member of the Garnett HDU. Mrs. Davey was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn, on January 28, 1993; her parents, Thomas Bert and Mable Ann McCarty; her sons-in-law, Marion Poole, Jerry Burns, and Jim Fowler; her brothers, Harmie, Thomas Jr., and Alfred McCarty; and her sister, Phoebe McCarty Barnett. Opal is survived by her sons, John Davey and his wife, Shirley, and Rex Davey and his wife, Wanda, all of Plainview, TX; her daughters, Barbara Fowler, also of Plainview, TX, Evonna McIntosh and her husband, Richard, Neosho, MO, and Joyce Burns, Gladstone, MO; her sisters, Alta Riblett and Eva Spencer, both of Greeley, KS; Nadine Boydston, LaCygne, KS, and Betty Bilderback, Garnett; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren, and four step-great-great-grandchildren. Music was provided by Jeanine Zentner, organist, and Larry Davey, vocalist. Musical selections included ‘Precious Lord Take My Hand’, and ‘How Great Thou Art’. Casketbearers were Mark Davey, Bryan Davey, Jimmy McIntosh, Randy McIntosh, Lynton Garrett, and Layton Garrett. The family received friends on Tuesday, October 22, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, 1800 North Highway 27, Plainview, TX 79072, or Seth Ward Baptist Church, 601 East 24th, Plainview, TX 79072.
