November 12, 2003 The ADVOCATE Serving Anderson, Southern Franklin and Western Linn Counties Volume 7, No. 90 Transcribed with permission of Vern Brown Page 5, Column 4 “Carl M. “Bud” Weiss 1929-2003 Funeral services for Carl M. “Bud” Weiss, 74, Garnett, were Saturday, November 8, 2003, at 10:00 a.m. at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel with Pastor Ann Loewe officiating. Interment was in Springfield Cemetery, rural Garnett. Mr. Weiss died Wednesday, November 5, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, MO. Carl M. Weiss was born July 14, 1929, at Garnett, KS, the son of Gus and Fern (Borror) Weiss. He grew up in Garnett and graduated from Garnett High School with the Class of 1947. Carl served with the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict from August 6, 1948, to July 18, 1952, at which time he was honorably discharged. Carl and Elaine Borth were married July 5, 1959, at United Brethren Church in Garnett. He was a member of the United Brethren Church in Garnett. He worked as a welder during his life. Mr. Weiss was preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Fern Weiss. Carl is survived by his wife, Elaine, of the home; his son, Steve Weiss, Garnett; his daughters, Kathy Stubitsch and her husband, Joseph, Plainfield, IL, Cynthia Willingham, Lawrence, KS, Angela Weiss, Seattle, WA, and Brenda Weiss, Lebanon, NH; his sisters, Donna Hale, Garnett, Dorothy Hawley, Shawnee Mission, KS, Rose Marie Miller, Garnett, and Mary Ann Umbarger, Garnett; and four grandchildren. Music was provided by Jeanine Zentner, organist, and Ann Loewe and Judy Wiley, vocalists. Musical selections included Face to Face, Under His Wings, and How Great Thou Art. Casketbearers were Leon Benjamin, Leonard Benjamin, Paul Bennett, Farrel King, Gary Turner, and Mike Wawrzewski. Honorary casketbearers were Clyde Boots, Clyde Moore, Albert Potter, Melvin Saunders, and Cecil Weems. The family received friends on Friday, November 8, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.” “Albert L. Wittman 1917-2003 Funeral services for Albert Wittman, 86, Garnett, are Thursday, November 13, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Scipio, KS. Interment will be in St. Boniface Cemetery. Mr. Wittman died Sunday night, November 9, at Golden Heights Living Center, Garnett. A Wake Service and Rosary will be held on Wednesday, November 12, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the church with the family receiving friends afterwards.
