Leonard 1933-2003 Funeral services for Billy L. Leonard, 70, Richmond, KS, were Wednesday, November 19, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at Dengel and Son Mortuary, Ottawa, KS. Interment was in Richmond Cemetery. Mr. Leonard died Sunday, November 16, at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, KS. Billy L. Leonard was born June 10, 1933, at Kansas City, MO, the son of Cecil and Edna (Briggs) Leonard. He attended Sweet Springs, MO, schools. He had lived in Richmond the past four years, moving from Garnett where he had lived for 20 years. He had also lived in Williamsburg 25-30 years, moving there from Kansas City. Billy worked in construction for several years. Mr. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Edna Leonard; and his brother, Russell Leonard. Billy is survived by his sisters, Betty McConnell, Richmond, KS, Barbara White, Waverly, KS, Patricia Carr, Tehachapi, CA, Peggy Leonard, and Rita May, Kansas City, MO; his brothers, Dale Leonard, Missouri, Richard Hodge, Kansas City, MO, Cecil Leonard, Wellsville, KS, Robert Leonard, Utah, and James Leonard, California; and several nieces and nephews. Richey 1945-2003 Funeral services for Judy K. Richey, 58, Iola, KS, were Wednesday, November 19, 2003, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Humboldt, KS, with Rev. Bruce Kristalyn officiating. Interment was in Gas City Cemetery, Gas, KS. Mrs. Richey died Friday, November 14, at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, MO. Judy K. Richey was born June 12, 1945, at Beloit, KS, the daughter of John and Lena (Dickman) Ahlvers. She grew up in the Ionia, KS, area and graduated from Esbon High School. She received her degree in nursing at Mary Mount College in Salina. She worked for the Butler and Greenwood county health departments, and the Coffey County Hospital before moving to Iola in 1974 as head nurse at the Southeast Kansas Multi-County Health Department. Judy was currently administrator and Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner of the Southeast Kansas Multi-County Health Department. She liked to read and travel. Judy and Charles F. ‘Chuck’ Richey were married April 7, 1978, at Grace Lutheran Church in Iola. They have made their home in the country north of Gas since then. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the American Nurse’s Association, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Judy had been a Sunday School teacher and had served on the Allen County Extension Council. Mrs. Richey was preceded in death by her sister, Hilda Dietz. Judy is survived by her husband, Charles, of the home; her son, Craig Richey and his wife, Crystal, Iola, KS; her daughter, Jennifer Richey, Iola, KS; her brothers, Dale Ahlvers, Hunter, KS, and Larry Ahlvers, Williamsburg, KS; her sisters, Lois Shrum and Glenda Funk, both of Garnett; her mother-in-law, Irene Rogers, Iola, KS; and four grandchildren, Cody and Casy Weast, and Cory and Courtney Richey. Page, 59, died November 16, 2003, in Akron, OH. Born on March 17, 1944, in Garnett, the son of Loren and Betty (Decker) Page, he graduated from Garnett High School with the Class of 1962. David received his business degree from Pittsburg State University and was employed with the B.F. Goodrich Company for a total of 20 years in Oklahoma, South Carolina, Iran, Pennsylvania, New Zealand and Akron. For the last five years he had been a landman with Mason Dixon Energy Inc. David was an avid hunter and golfer and remembered every stroke on every golf course he ever played. As well as being an outdoorsman, he enjoyed gourmet cooking, which was greatly appreciated by family and friends. He enjoyed good food and good friends, all of these activities were served up with his satirical sense of humor. His biggest joy in life was his grandchildren. We will miss him. Mr. Page was preceded in death by parents, Loren and Betty Page. David is survived by his wife, Elaine, of the home; his daughters and sons-in-law Deborah and Peter Norton of Charlottesville, VA, and Kirsten and Rob Bennett of Aurora, Or; his grandchildren Will and Paul Norton, Aissa and Maya Bennett; his sister and brother-in-law Kathy and David Carl of Norman, OK; and his nieces Becki Stutz and Beth Carl. Brown, Topeka, KS, formerly of Garnett, were Thursday, November 13, 2003, at 2:30 p.m. at Parker-Price Mortuary, Topeka. Interment was in Grantville Cemetery, Grantville, KS. Mrs. Brown died Tuesday, November 11, at McCrite Plaza, Topeka. Elsie E. Brown was born March 16, 1906, near Hoyt, KS, the daughter of James and Victoria (Jensen) Kinnaird. She graduated from Hoyt High School in 1923 and received her teacher’s certificate from Emporia State Teachers College. She was a school teacher and started teaching at age 17 in a one-room school house. She taught in the Topeka and Garnett areas for many years. Elsie was a librarian at the Garnett Public Library and was a volunteer at the Anderson County Historical Society, where she served as treasurer and was co-chairperson for the reprint of the ‘Anderson County, Kansas, Histories’. She was a member of P.E.O. Chapter HG for more than 50 years. She was a collector of antique dishes, books, and coins. She was also involved in researching genealogy. She and her husband enjoyed traveling. She moved back to Topeka in 1987 to be close to her family. Elsie and John J. (Jack) Brown were married in March of 1930 in Topeka, KS. They moved to Garnett in 1945 where Mr. Brown was a partner in the International Harvester dealership. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Brown in 1983; her parents, James and Victoria Kinnaird; and her sister, Mary Slattery. Elsie is survived by nieces and nephews. The family received friends on Wednesday, November 12, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Anderson County Historical Society.
