Stan Cover, Rev. Teresa Peterson, and Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment is in Garnett Cemetery. Mrs. Parks died Monday, April 12, at Golden Heights Living Center. The family greeted friends on Thursday, April 15, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. 'Bobby' Smethers 1929-2004 Funeral services for Robert Lloyd 'Bobby' Smethers, 74, Garnett, were Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel with Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment was in Kincaid Cemetery, Kincaid, KS. Mr. Smethers died Sunday, April 11, at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, MO. Robert L. Smethers was born May 19, 1929, at Selma, KS, the son of Irl and Winfred (Clark) Smethers. He grew up on the family farm near Selma, and went to grade school in Selma. He graduated from Kincaid High School. He remained on the farm to take care of his mother and operated his welding shop for many years. He later lived in Colony for a few years, then moved to Piqua, and then to Garnett in 1995. He finally moved to Louisburg to a nursing home. In addition to his own shop, he had worked as a machinist for Dalton-Brecheisen Manufacturing Company in Garnett, and BERG in Iola. He was involved in the design and development of several new products and worked on the team at BERG that developed the anti-lock braking system that now is in use. Mr. Smethers was preceded in death by his parents, Irl and Winfred Smethers; his brothers, Harold L. Smethers and Irl I. Smethers; and his sisters, Emma I. Belangy and Ethel A. Carr. Bobby is survived by his nephews, J.D. Carr and his wife, Donna, Garnett, Elwyn Carr and his wife, Mary, Cherryvale, KS, Larry Belangy and his wife, Mary, Topeka, KS, Steve Smethers, Manhattan, KS, and Mike Smethers, Garnett; and his nieces, Cheryl Crump and her husband, Jim, Hermantown, MN, and Charlotte Roberts and her husband, Earl, Greeley, KS. Music was provided by Jeanine Zentner, organist, and Scott Schulte, soloist. Musical selections included 'How Great Thou Art' and 'Rock Of Ages'. Casketbearers were Dr. Dan Carr, David Carr, Terry Carr, Kirk Pagenkopf, Dan Roberts, and Randy Roberts. The family received friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Wednesday before the service. Page 5, Column 3: "Greta Mae Heatherly 1917-2004 Funeral services for Greta Mae Heatherly, 87, Garnett, were Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel with Rev. George Pasley officiating. Interment was in Garnett Cemetery. Mrs. Heatherly died Sunday, April 11, at Golden Heights Living Center, Garnett. Greta Mae Heatherly was born March 9, 1917, at Garnett, the daughter of Anthony Cyril and Isabella (Coats) Britton. She worked many years on the assembly line at the Sunflower Ammunition Plant in DeSoto, KS. She also worked as a waitress, and at Arkhaven Nursing Home in Garnett. Greta and John Bell were married August 3, 1934. Two daughters were born to this marriage. That marriage ended in divorce. She then married James Kenneth Heatherly on July 29, 1947. He preceded her in death on November 11, 1993. Mrs. Heatherly was also preceded in death by her grandson, Bill Mersman; her parents, Anthony and Isabella Britton; her brother, Cyril Britton; and her sisters, Eva G. Brownrigg, Ethel Warren, Edith Macklin, Doris Badger, Margery Britton, Jane Britton, and Marguerita Lopp. Greta is survived by her daughters, Carol Jane Mersman, Garnett, and Jo Ann Lickteig, Olathe, KS; her sister, Gwen Benus, Olathe, KS: 17 grandchildren, 39 great- grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren. Music was provided by Jeanine Zentner, organist, and Scott Schulte, soloist. Musical selections included 'Amazing Grace' and 'Just A Closer Walk With Thee'. Casketbearers were Dale Lickteig, Dean Lickteig, Dennis Lickteig, Jim Mersman, Mark Mersman, and Robert Mersman. Honorary casketbearers were Anthony Mersman, Gerald Mersman, Leland Mersman, and Richard Mersman. The family received friends on Tuesday, April 13, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
