Gary Benjamin officiating. Mrs. Bloom died Thursday, April 15, at Olather Medical Center, Olathe, KS. Evelyn Smethers Bloom was born July 7, 1914, north of Kincaid, in Anderson County, the daughter of John J. and Mary Sophia (Robertson) Porter. She was a lifetime resident of the Kincaid and Garnett area. She lived on a farm north of Kincaid with her husband, working with him, before working at Warner’s Manufacturing in Garnett. She owned and operated Evelyn’s Café in Kincaid from 1960-1970. Evelyn was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kincaid. Evelyn and John G. Smethers were married in 1935. He preceded her in death in 1982. She then married Ernie Bloom in 1986. He also preceded her in death in 1999. Mrs. Bloom was also preceded in death by her sons, Herman Keith Smethers and J.W. Smethers; her daughter, Charla Lou Smethers; her stepson, Rickey Lee Bloom; her parents, John J. and Mary Sophia Porter; her brother, John “Doc” Porter; and her sister, Ruby Miller. Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Lancaster, Garnett, and Anna Lee Hunt and her husband, Wayne, Huntsville, AR; her grandchildren, Dusty Hunt, Kevin Hunt, David Hunt, Mary Jane Carver, and Susan Ramsey; and her great-grandchildren, Ashley Carver, Brittany Carver, Tia Hunt, Braden Hunt, and Shelby Ramsey. Casketbearers were Ron Carver, David Hunt, Dusty Hunt, Kevin Hunt, Wayne Hunt, and Dusty Ramsey. The family suggests memorials to the Gideons Memorial Bible Fund, which may be left in care of the funeral home. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 3: “Goldie Parks 1917-2004 Funeral services for Goldie Parks, 86, Garnett, were Friday, April 16, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Garnett, with Rev. Stan Cover, Rev. Teresa Peterson, and Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment was in Garnett Cemetery. Mrs. Parks died Monday, April 12, at Golden Heights Living Center. Goldie Parks wes born April 16, 1917, at Walker, MO, the daughter of Edward C. and Annie (Bach) Ranz, one of two sets of twins in her family of seven children. She graduated from high school in Walker. She was a homemaker and a farmer’s wife. Goldie was a member of First Baptist Church, and worked as a volunteer during elections. Goldie and Melvin O. Parks were married May 3, 1936, at Nevada, MO. Two sons were born to this union, Charles Lee Parks and Gilbert Ray Parks. He preceded her in death on January 2, 1955. Mrs. Parks was also preceded in death by her son, Gilbert R. Parks; her parents, Edward C. and Annie Ranz; twin brothers, Ray and Clay Ranz, and her twin brother, Gilbert Ranz; her sisters, Edna Ranz, Esther Railsback, and Elizabeth Ranz; and one great-granddaughter, Tabitha Peterson. Goldie is survived by her son, Charles L. Parks and his wife, Laura, Centerville, KS; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren ; and her daughter-in-law Shirley (Parks) Roeckers. Music was provided by Jon Covault and Laura Parks, organists, and Richard Parks, vocalist. Musical selections included “Peace in the Valley”, “How Great Thou Art”, “On Eagles Wings”, and “Because He Lives”. Casketbearers were Jim Dalsing, Troy Gavel, Mark Hendricks, Edward Ranz, Gilbert Ranz, and Steve Ranz. Honorary casketbearers were Goldie’s great-grandsons, Landin Dalsing, Coleman Gavel, Colt Gavel, Craig Hendricks, Brandon Parks, and John Peterson. The family received friends on Thursday, April 15, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, Garnett Senior Center, or Gideons Memorial Bible Fund.
