Coppenbarger 1909-2004 Mass of Christian Burial for Marie E. Coppenbarger, 94, Wichita, KS, formerly of Garnett, were Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Father George Matz officiating. Interment was in Holy Angels Cemetery. Mrs. Coppenbarger died Wednesday, May 5, at Wichita. Marie E. Coppenbarger was born September 22, 1909, at Greeley, KS, the daughter of Albert O. and Elizabeth (Maile) Bowman. She was the last surviving child out of ten children. The Bowmans owned and worked a farm six miles north of Garnett and one mile south of the Scipio Station. Marie attended school at Scipio. Marie and Clarence Frederick Coppenbarger were married on February 15, 1937. Fred died suddenly April 23, 1957. Marie lived in Garnett from 1943 until she moved to the Vyne Assisted Living Residence in Wichita in September of 2000 in order to be near her son, Fred and his wife, Sharon, and medical facilities. Marie worked at the Richart Hotel for several years, and as a nurses' assistant at Anderson County Hospital until her retirement in 1981 at age 72. She loved growing flowers and plants in her yard and house, and enjoyed quilting and many hand crafts. Marie was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church and the Altar Society. Mrs. Coppenbarger was also preceded in death by her parents, Albert O. and Elizabeth Bowman; and nine brothers and sisters. Marie is survived by her daughter, Rita, and her husband, Jim, Grand Junction, CO; her sons, Fred and his wife, Sharon, and Joe and his wife, Christine, Sierra Vista, AZ; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Music was provided by Laura Parks, organist, and Scott Schulte, vocalist. Musical selections included 'Hail Mary, Gentle Woman', 'The Rose', 'Ave Marie', 'Here I Am Lord', and 'Wind Beneath My Wings'. Casketbearers were Dwyane Foltz, Charles Holloran, Ronald Mersman, Michael Rues, Pat Rues, and Robert Wittman. Honorary casketbearers were Earl Anderson, David Setter, and Henry Wittman. The family greeted friends following a Rosary on Tuesday, May 12, at 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Home Health and Hospice, LLC, 7804 East Funston, Suite 20, Wichita, KS 67207.
