January 14, 2004 The ADVOCATE Serving Anderson, Southern Franklin and Western Linn Counties Volume 8, No. 4 Transcribed with permission of Vern Brown Page 5, Column 1: “Edith Alice Lile 1910-2004 Funeral services for Edith Alice Lile, 93, Parker, KS, were Tuesday, January 13, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. at Parker United Methodist Church with Rev. Ed English officiating. The eulogy was delivered by Wesley Clyde Staatz, Mrs. Lile’s grandson. Interment was in Parker Highland Cemetery. Mrs. Lile died Friday, January 9, at Anderson County Hospital Long Term Care. Edith Alice Lile was born June 23, 1910, in Woods County, OK, the fourth of six children born to Thomas A. and Matilda (Meyer) Chase. She grew up near Freedom, OK, and was a 1929 graduate of Freedom High School. Edith and Clyde A. Lile were married October 28, 1931, in Woodward, OK, and reached their 71st anniversary. They became the parents of three children. During the 1930’s Dust Bowl, they moved from Oklahoma to Kansas, near Lawrence. Later, they moved east of Greeley, KS. Then in 1946, they moved to their farm west of Parker, where they have resided for the past 58 years. Edith was a loving homemaker and a ready, willing helper with the farm work. She enjoyed cooking and baking pies, sewing and quilting, gardening and preserving food, caring for the farm animals, and horseback riding. At the age of 39, Edith accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour. She was a member of the Parker United Methodist Church. Music was provided by Marjorie Prentice, organist, Beverlee Singer, pianist, and Ron Singer, soloist. Vocal selections included ‘God Be With You Till We Meet Again’ and congregational hymns were ‘I Know Whom I Have Believed’ and ‘I Love To Tell The Story’. Casketbearers were Brad Bell, Jay Bodenhamer, Arnie Lickteig, Charles Peterson, Eugene Prentice, and Carl White. Mrs. Lile was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde, on July 5, 2003; all five of her siblings; and a great-granddaughter. Edith is survived by her daughter, Clydene Staatz and her husband, Merlin, Seattle, WA; her sons, Bert Lile and his wife, Rose, Greeley, and Otis Lile and his wife, Jean, Parker, KS: seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. The family received friends on Monday, January 12, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Lakemary Industries of Paola, the Parker United Methodist Church, or Anderson County Hospital.
