Adams 1939-2004 Funeral services for Leona D. Adams, 65, Ottawa, KS, were Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at Dengel and Son Mortuary with Rev. Matthew Benorden officiating. Interment was in Highland Cemetery. Mrs. Adams died Thursday, June 17, at her home. Leona D. Adams was born March 15, 1939, at Ottawa, the daughter of John L. and Eula Mae (Welton) Montgomery. She attended Ottawa High School with the Class of 1957. Leona had previously lived in Osawatomie, Garnett, and Kincaid, and had lived in Ottawa since 1968. Leona and Joe Fred Scott were married August 24, 1955, at Matfield Green, KS. They were later divorced. On January 12, 1976, she was united in marriage with Robert Adams in Lawrence, KS. They later divorced. In the 1960's and 1970's, she worked for A-1 Cab, North American Hotel, Norge Village Laundry, and Hallmark Inn. Leona retired May 20, 2004, after 24 years as clerk for the Franklin County Transfer Station. She was a member and former Deacon of North Baptist church in Ottawa. She also was a member of Ottawa Promenaders Square Dance Club of Ottawa. Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by two infant sons, Rickie Scott and David Scott; her parents, Eula Mae and John L. Montgomery; her brothers, Lester Eugene Montgomery and Gail Montgomery; two grandchildren, Brandy Scott and Morgan Hull; and one step- great-grandson, Ronnie Rentz. Leona is survived by her daughters, Karen Hull and Rita Coulter, both of Ottawa, and Annette Spillman, Quenemo, KS; her sons, Randy Scott, Ottawa, and John Scott, Woodward, OK; her sisters, Donna M. Yakle, Beth E. Hoalting, and Sandra L. Moore, all of Ottawa, and Linda S. Fletcher, Olathe, KS: her brother, Kenny R. Montgomery, Ottawa; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; eight step- great-grandchildren; three step-great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials to North Baptist Church, or Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5901 of Ottawa. Dengel and Son Mortuary was in charge of arrangements."
