Interment was in Bethel Cemetery. Mrs. Hirt died Sunday, June 27, at Guest Homes Estates, Garnett. Amy Alice Hirt was born December 23, 1905, at Isabel, KS, the daughter of John H. and Myrtle J. (Armstrong) Riffey. When Amy was eight months old, her parents moved to Anderson County, where she resided the rest of her life except for two and one half years when she lived in Pratt County, near Sawyer. Early in life she united with the church of her choice, the Old German Baptist. Amy was united in marriage to Osie Lee Hirt on August 27, 1924, at her parents’ home. To this union were born three daughters and three sons, Fern, Bernice, Vernon, Richard, Keith, and Norma Jane, who passed away at the age of two and one half months. In March 1979, she, with her companion and others of life faith, made a memorable trip to the Holy Land where they saw many places of Bible history, and were left with many fond memories of the trip. She was anointed during some previous sicknesses, which gave her great comfort. Her husband passed away December 20, 1994. They were married more than 70 years, which left her with many lonely hours. She always enjoyed company and especially the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and also great-great-grandchildren and visiting members and friends. Amy enjoyed her friends at the villa, where she moved on May 1, 1999. Mrs. Hirt was also preceded in death by her parents, John H. and Myrtle J. Riffey, two great-granddaughters, Bonnie Miller and Deborah Johassen; two brothers, Elmer Riffey and Homer Riffey; one infant sister; and two sisters-in-law, Florence Riffey and Vernia Riffey. Amy is survived by her sons, Vernon Hirt and his wife, Donna, Sawyer, KS, Richard Hirt and his wife, Anna May, New Carlisle, OH, and Keith Hirt and his wife, Marilyn, Westphalia, KS; her daughters, Fern Miller and her husband, Melvin, Westphalia, KS, and Bernice Mason and her husband, Keith, Sawyer, KS; her brother Alva Riffey, Garnett; her sister, Martha Edgecomb, Garnett; 21 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, and 18 great-great-grandchildren. Casketbearers were Norman Mason, Dale Miller, Russell Mason, Gerald Hirt, Gail Miller, and Glen Mason. The family received friends on Wednesday, June 30, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Slagle, 55, Garnett, were Monday, June 28, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, Emerald, KS. The eulogy was delivered by Tony Jackson. Interment was in St. Patrick’s Cemetery with V.F.W. Post #6397 and American Legion Post #48, Garnett, providing the military honor guard. Mr. Slagle died Thursday, June 24, at Ransom Memorial Hospital, Ottawa, KS. Robert K. Slagle was born September 10, 1948, at Richland, VA, the son of Garnett and Mildred (Skeins) Slagle. He grew up in Kansas City, where he returned after serving with the United States Navy during the Viet Nam War. Robert and Betty Lutz were married April 28, 1973, at Kansas City, MO. They moved to Garnett from Liberty, MO, in 1981. He was an assembly line foreman for Ford Motor Company. Mr. Slagle is survived by his wife, Betty, of the home; his daughters, Brenda Slagle, Garnett, and Jennifer Slagle, Wichita, KS; his parents, Garnett and Mildred Slagle, Wichita Falls, TX; his brother, Charles Slagle, Elsinore, CA; and his sisters, Sue Wrigley, Kansas City, MO, Frances Prince, St. Joseph, MO, and Tina Gilbert, Wichita Falls, TX. Music was provided by Louise O’Neil, organist. Casketbearers were Dan Mader, Billy Price, Bobby Price, Kenny Price, Kevin Price, and Gerald Scheckel. Interment was in Welda Cemetery, Welda, KS. Mrs. Tush died Sunday, June 27, at Allen County Hospital, Iola, KS. Mary Ann Tush was born August 15, 1914, at Scipio, KS, the daughter of Henry and Gertrude (Wolken) Kueser. She was raised in Scipio, where she attended the Catholic School. She then lived in Garnett until she moved to Welda in 1955. Mary Ann was a dietary aide at Anderson County Hospital. She moved to Iola in 1999, where she lived until her death. Mary Ann and George Tush were married in 1933. To this union were born four sons and three daughters. Mrs. Tush was also preceded in death by her daughter, Shirley Watt; her parents, Henry and Gertrude Kueser; and her daughter-in-law, Loisjean Tush. Mary Ann is survived by her sons, George Tush, Iola, KS, Gordon Tush, Lincoln, NE, Rick Tush and his wife, Nancy, Eureka, KS, and Daryll Tush and his wife, Susan, Folsom, CA; her daughters, Karen Meliza and her husband, Oliver, Iola, KS, and Sharon Tush, Wadsworth, NV; her sisters, Markey Serene, Garnett, Jukie Marmon, Topeka, KS, and Joyce Jellison, Arleta, CA; 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Music was provided by Katherine Watt and Steve Watt. Musical selections included ‘His Eye Is On The Sparrow’ and ‘In The Garden’. Casketbearers were Daryll Tush, Ronald Tush, Steve Watt, Kim Watt, Don Watt, and Leland McGraw. The family received friends on Tuesday, June 29, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
