Memorial services for Mr. Schmitt will be held at a later date. Ronald S. Schmitt was born December 12, 1972, at Lawrence, KS, the son of Patrick Earl and Jeanine (Gillett) Schmitt-Smith. He was a lifelong resident of Princeton, moving to Gardner two years ago. Ron graduated from Central Heights High School with the Class of 1991. He transported fuel for several companies for several years. He was currently employed by Star Transport, where he had been a driver for the past two years. Ron and Leslie Miller were married August 26, 1995, at Princeton, KS. Mr. Schmitt was preceded in death by his father, Patrick Earl Schmitt. Ron is survived by his wife, Leslie, of the home; his daughter, Shelby Schmitt, of the home; his mother, Jeanine Smith, Princeton, KS; his step-daughter, Celia DeLeo, Warren, OH; his brother, Robert Schmitt, Liberty, MO; his maternal grandmother, Helen Cronin, Olathe, KS; his paternal grandmother, Marian Schmitt, Wakeeney, KS; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and many friends. The family greeted friends on Satuday, January 17, at 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Shelby Schmitt Education Fund, in care of the funeral home. Mrs. Latimer died Saturday, January 17, 2004.” “Harry K. Papps 1925-2004 Funeral services for Harry K. Papps, 78, Ottawa, KS, were Saturday, January 17, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. at Dengel and Son Morutary with Pastor Duane Pedrow officiating. Interment was at 2:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon at Evergreen Cemetery in Emporia, with Masonic services by Emporia Masonic Lodge #12, A.F. & A.M., and military services by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #1980 and American Legion Post #5 of Emporia. Mr. Papps died Wednesday, January 14, at his residence. Harry K. Papps was born February 6, 1925, at Gypsum, KS, the son of Peter K. and Harrieta (Jennings) Papps. He had lived in Ottawa since 1993, having lived previously in Salida, CO, from 1990 to 1993 after moving from Emporia, where he had lived since 1945. He attended high school in Bushong, KS, before entering the United States Army during World War II. He trained at Camp Beale, CA, before going to Germany with the 273rd Artillery Division. He served in the European Theater and received medals and commendations including the Silver Star for gallantry in action, four Battle Bronze Stars, and national Defense and Good Conduct Medals. In 1945, he drove for General George Patton. He received a Purple Heart for his wounds in battle in Germany. He was discharged as a Technician 5 in late 1945. Harry and Wilma Jean Hunt were married in 1945. They shared 42 years of marriage until her death in September, 1986. On February 14, 1987, Harry was united in marriage with Shirley Eubank. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5901, and Lowry-Funston Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #1980, Emporia; was a life member of American Legion Post #5 of Emporia; was Past Master of Emporia Masonic Lodge #12, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons; Arab Shrine Temple, Topeka; a former member of Arab Shrine Mini-T Unit in Emporia; and was a life member of Southwestern Bell Pioneers and Citizens Watch of Ottawa. He also donated 200 units of blood to the American Red Cross, mostly in Lyon County. Mr. Papps was also preceded in death by his parents, Peter K. and Harrieta Papps; his brothers, Peter Papps, and Chris Papps; and his sister, Margaret Gordon. Harry is survived by his wife, Shirley Papps, of the home; his sons, Eddie Papps, Williamsburg, VA, John Papps, Overland Park, KS, and Jeff Eubank, Emporia, KS; his daughter, Dee Ann Irons, Wichita, KS; his brother, George Papps, Garnett; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. The family greeted friends on Friday, January 16, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Washington Forever Cemetery, Independence, MO. A Celebration of Life in honor of Sheila was held on Tuesday from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Mt. Washington Forever Funeral Home prior to the services. Mrs. Loyall died Sunday, January 11, at North Kansas City Hospital, North Kansas City, MO. Sheila Rae Loyall was born August 15, 1944, at Kansas City, KS, the daughter of George and Evelyn (Burton) Fischer. She was a warranty clerk for Thoroughbred Ford for 16 years. Sheila was baptized in the Baptist faith, enjoyed country music, especially George Jones, and collected rooster and chicken figurines. Sheila and Donald Loyall were married September 2, 1988, at Las Vegas, NV. Mrs. Loyall was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles Lewis and Donald Loyall. Sheila is survived by her sons, Kevin Michael Corkill and Jeffrey Lee Lewis, both of Kansas City, KS; her parents, George and Evelyn Fischer, Kansas City, KS; her sisters, Linda Sprague, Richmond, KS, and Gayle Hinkle, Platte City, MO; and her brothers, Herman Fischer, Sedalia, MO, and Wade Fischer, Ozawkie, KS.
