Mrs. Dougherty died Sunday, August 29, at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, KS. Barbara K. “Sue” Dougherty was born at Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Milo Milton and Frances Ringle (Chad) Kesner. She graduated from LeRoy High School with the Class of 1950, and from the University of Kansas in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. She was a homemaker. She encouraged her husband in his medical practice, raised six children, and continued to participate in their lives. She cared for those in her path, generously sharing line. Sue was a member of Holy Angels Church and Nova Vista, and served on the Board of Directors for Mid-America Nutrition. She enjoyed plants and her yard. Sue and Thomas M. Dougherty, M.D. were married August 4, 1952, at Lawrence. He preceded her in death on March 13, 1992. Mrs. Dougherty was also preceded in death by her parents, Milo Milton and Frances Ringle Kesner. Sue is survived by her sons, Thomas M.P. Dougherty, Jr., M.D. of Decatur, GA, Joseph James Dougherty II, R.N. and his wife, Rachel of Garnett, and David A. Dougherty, and his wife, LucyQiLiang Dougherty of Canton, MI; her daughters, B. Susan Dougherty and her husband, Kerin L. Schell, PhD of Wichita, Annie T. Kerns Dougherty and her husband, Bruce Kerns of Longmont, CO, and Mary F. Turnbull and her husband, David of Kansas City, MO; her grandchildren, Teresa Marie Dougherty, Joseph James Dougherty IV, Daniel Thomas Dougherty, Grace Ahne Dougherty, Clare Mei Dougherty, Renae Lian Dougherty, and Miles David Dougherty; and her brother, Milo “Mick” Kesner of Welda.. Musical selections included “Be Not Afraid”, “Table of Plenty”, “We Are One Body”, and “Glory and Praise”. Her family greeted friends at the family home on Friday evening from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Sue Dougherty Memorial Fund.
