Interment was in Ruhamah Cemetery, Rantoul. Mrs. Parks-Kirkland was born November 14, 1968, at Olathe, the daughter of Ronald and Lynn (Young) Parks. She was a lifelong resident of Rantoul and attended Central Heights School with the Class of 1987, later earning her G.E.D. She worked as a store clerk for Texaco in Gardner and as manager for Burger King in Lawrence. Christina was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Olathe. Christina and Johnny Kirkland were married October 21, 1982, at Rantoul. They later divorced. Mrs. Parks-Kirkland was preceded in death by her grandparents, Claude and Marie Young; her grandfathers, Bob Brooks and Walter Young; and her grandson, Ashton Kirkland. Christina is survived by her sons, Michael Ray Kirkland and Erica Hess, and Johnnie Ray Kirkland, all of the home; her parents, Ronald and Lynn Parks of Rantoul; her sisters, Terry Lynn Hoke of Ottawa, Jeana Marie Ledom and Melinda Sue Parks, both of Rantoul, and Natasha Crum of Gardner; her grandparents, Maurice and Irene Parks of Holden, MO; and her grandmother, Imogene Brooks of Olathe. The family greeted friends on Friday, September 10, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Johnnie Ray Kirkland College Fund. Dengel and Son Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Colume 2: “James Ray Hale 1946-2004 Funeral services for James Ray Hale, 58, Abilene, formerly of Garnett, were Friday, September 10, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. at Danner Funeral Home in Abilene, with Virgil Eubanks officiating. Military honors provided by a color guard from the Big Red One was at 3:00 p.m. at Springfield Cemetery, near Garnett, with Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Mr. Hale died Tuesday, September 7, at his home. James Ray Hale was born May 29, 1946, at Garnett, the son of Jesse and Donna (Weiss) Hale. Growing up in Garnett, he graduated from Garnett High School with the Class of 1964 and attended Allen County Community College in Iola. He was veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Viet Nam War with the Big Red One from 1968-1970. He was employed by the State of Kansas as a material handler. Jim was united in marriage with Linda Reiling. They later divorced. He and Cheryl Hardisty were married in 1982 in Abilene, later divorcing. Mr. Hale was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ray and Rosa Hale; and his maternal grandparents, Gus and Fern Weiss. Jim is survived by his sons, Jesse Dee Hale of Manhattan, Clint James Hale, and Daniel Robert Hale, both of the home; his parents, Jesse and Donna Hale, Garnett; his sister, Rosemary Turner and her husband Gary of Garnett; his brother, Dennis Hale and his wife Gloria of Topeka; and several nieces and nephews. Music was provided by Peggy Meuli, organist. Casketbearers were Jim Livingston, Jerry Gantenbein, Vernon Rock, Josh Boys, Josh Reynolds, and Brian Green. Danner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 3: “Mona Mae Millikan 1929-2004 Graveside services and interment for Mona Mae Millikan, 74, Atlanta, GA, were Friday, September 10, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. at Colony Cemetery with Pastor Terry Sue Williford officiating. Mrs. Millikan died Friday, September 3, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta. Mona Mae Millikan was born November 10, 1929, at Netawaka, KS, the first-born child of Henry and Florence (Shike) Millikan, who were both ministers in the Kansas Methodist Church. The Millikans pastered in Colony at one time, and later retired there. Mona attended schools in Kansas and graduated from Kansas University in Lawrence. At one time, she worked at the Salina Journal. In later years, she had been associated with the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta. She believed strongly in the Christian Life. She fought the fight of illness with dignity and courage. Miss Millikan was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Florence Millikan; and her brother Richard, who are buried in Colony Cemetery. Mona is survived by her cousins, Laura Finney of California, Marian Shike of Chanute, Carol Solomon and her husband Virgil of Chanute, George Shike and his wife Buena, Helen Thompson, Mary Bell and Bill Ahfmuhl, all of Wichita, Vivian Shike of Alton, and Jean Betts of Garnett.
