Harden, P.E. 1910-2004 Funeral services for Ray. R. Harden, P.E., 94, Garnett, were Thursday, October 21, 2004, at 1:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Gale Mack officiating. Interment was in Garnett Cemetery. Mr. Harden died Monday, October 18, at his home. Ray R. Harden was born October 5, 1910, at Redfield, IA, the son of Omar and Callie (Johnson) Harden. He graduated from high school in Adel, IA, and attended Iowa State University for two years. Ray served with the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He worked as the Assistant Anderson County Engineer from 1933-1938, then became the Anderson County Engineer until his retirement in 1976. Ray was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and the Rotary Club, receiving the Paul harris Fellow award. Ray and Maude M. Fansler were married October 16, 1941, at Parsons, WV. She preceded him in death on February 18, 2003. Mr. Harden was also preceded in death by his parents, Omar and Callie Harden; three brothers; and one great-granddaughter, Madison Thornton. Ray is survived by his son, Dan Harden and his wife, Carolyn, of Lawrence; his daughters, Juli Sale and her husband, Gary, of Tucson, AZ, and Patti Heiland and her husband, Phil, of Dodge City; his sister, June Priel of West Des Moines, IA; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Music was provided by Jeanine Zentner, organist, and Bill Craig, vocalist. Musical selections included “The Lord’s Prayer”, “How Great Thou Art”, and “They Call The Wind Mariah”. Casketbearers were Clinton Benjamin, Levi Benjamin, Jenny Dorsten, Matthew Harden, Phil Heiland, and Gary Sale. Honorary casketbearers were Richard Bardsley, Willis and Dorothy Henderson, Clarence and Irma Johnson, JoAnn Johnson, and Jim and Lou Ann Shmidl. The family received friends on Wednesday, October 20, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 2: “Thomas W. Marks 1939-2004 Funeral services for Thomas W. Marks, 64, Ottawa, were Wednesday, October 20, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at Dengel and Son Mortuary, Ottawa, with Rev. Bob Miller officiating. A private inurnment will be held at a later date. Mr. Marks died Thursday, October 14, at his home. Thomas W. Marks was born December 1, 1939, at Ottawa, the son of William J. and Winnie (Dawson) Marks. He grew up in the rural Ottawa area, graduating from Ottawa High School with the Class of 1957. He attended Kansas State University. From 1968 to 1972, he lived in San Bernadino, CA, moving to Denver, CO, in 1975, and returning to Ottawa in 1999. Thomas was first employed by Mode-O-Day in Ottawa, starting out as a cutter in 1957 and later as an assistant plant manager. In 1968, he transferred to Mode-O-Day at San Bernadino as a plant manager until 1972. In the early and mid 1980’s, he owned and operated High County Designs, a speciality advertising manufacturing company in Denver. In 1992, Thomas was employed by Sprint North Supply in Denver as an inventory control person, transferring in 1995 to the Sprint Campus at New Century, near Gardner, working there until 1997. Thomas then took a position as warranty claims manager with the Hotsy Corporation, Denver, retiring in 1999. He was a member of Lions Clubs in different locations, including Ottawa. Thomas and Conine Rae Reed were married in September, 1958. They were later divorced. Thomas and Linda Bridge were married in Los Alamitos, CA. Mr. Marks was preceded in death by his parents, William J. and Winnie Marks; and an infant son, Scott Raymond Marks. Thomas is survived by his wife, Linda, of the home; his son, Michael Thomas Marks of Lenexa; his daughters, Shelley Renee Marks of Bangkok, Thailand; and Shelley Elizabeth Henry of Parker, CO; his sister, Hazel W. Gillette of Paola; his grandchildren, Alexandra, Caitlyn, Garrett, and Ashleigh Henry, Zoe Pulford, and Samantha and Dawson Marks; his aunt, Betty (Marks) Sumner of Garnett; and several nieces and nephews. The family received friends on Tuesday, October 19, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Friends of Historic Buildings, O.H.S. Restoration. Interment was in Bethel Cemetery, Westphalia. Wade died Tuesday, October 19, at Children’s Mercy Hospital, Kansas City, MO. A complete obituary will appear in the next Advocate. Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment was in Garnett Cemetery. Mr. Robinson died Tuesday, October 19, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, MO. Martin Gail Robinson was born October 9, 1956, at Beloit, WI, the son of Clyde W. and Mary Lee (Tush) Robinson. He graduated from Garnett High School and from Pittsburg State University with a degree in Computer Design. Martin was a computer designer at Haven’s Steel in Ottawa making templates for their fabrication operation. Mr. Robinson was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Mary Lee Robinson. Martin is survived by his brothers, Jan Robinson and his wife, Kathy, of Madison, IN, and Kim Robinson; as well as other family and friends. Casketbearers were Tom Baugher, Pat Beller, Mitch McSwane, Tracy Modlin, Jan Robinson, and Tom Tush. The family greeted friends on Thursday, October 21, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Blanton, 54, Richmond, were Monday, October 25, 2004, at 2:30 p.m. at Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Pleasanton. Interment was in Pleasanton Cemetery. Mrs. Blanton died Friday, October 22, at Anderson County Hospital, Garnett. Barbara J. Blanton was born January 18, 1950, at St. Joseph, MO, the daughter of Roy Oran and Donna Eileen (Muns) Smith. Barbara worked with construction and also as a waitress. Her favorite pastime was being “Grandma” to her grandchildren, Cody, Sara, Jessica, and William. Barbara and William Blanton were married January 21, 1969, at Troy, KS. Mrs. Blanton was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Donna Smith; and her brothers, Sam Vessar and Roy Lee Smith. Barbara is survived by her husband, William, of Richmond; her daughter, Barbara Maloney and her husband, Joe, of Pleasanton; her brothers, Sid Smith, Steve Vessar, and Dale Runkey; her sisters, Eileen and Betty Tawzer, Shirley Speer, Carolyn Blanton, Anita Miller, and her four grandchildren. The family received friends on Sunday, October 24, from 4:00-5:00 p.m. at the chapel. Memorials may be made to the Barbara Blanton Memorial Fund.
