Interment was in Paola Cemetery. Miss Schroeder died Saturday, November 6, at St. Luke’s South Hospital. Nancy Joan Schroeder was born September 23, 1954, at Ottawa, the daughter of Harold F. and Pauline R. (Fort) Schroeder. She grew up on a farm outside of the Paola area. She attended Lakemary Center in Paola for several years before moving to Garnett, where she lived in a group home and worked at Tri-Ko, Inc. in Osawatomie. She enjoyed her work at Tri-Ko and was one of the longest tenured there, being employed for more than 30 years. In that time, she had only missed one or two days of work, which she was very proud of. Nancy was a dedicated Christian throughout her life, and was a member of Paola First Lutheran Church and, after moving to Garnett, became a member of the Garnett First Baptist Church. She took great enjoyment from the church, which was a source of inspiration and happiness for her. Nancy enjoyed keeping her apartment clean, working at Tri-Ko, attending her church, and spending time visiting with family and friends. Miss Schroeder was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Pauline Schroeder. Nancy leaves behind to cherish her memory her brother, Gary Schroeder and his wife, Christie, of Paola; three nieces, Alicia Schroeder of Olathe, and Amber and Amie Schroeder, both of Paola; and a host of friends, all of whom will miss her deeply. The family received friends on Monday, November 8, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Tri-Ko and/or Garnett First Baptist Church. Ahring, 65, Garnett, are Friday, November 12, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. at First Christian Church with Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment is in Garnett Cemetery. Mr. Ahring died Monday, November 8, at Miami County Hospital, Paola. The family received friends on Thursday, November 10, 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A complete obituary will appear in the next Advocate. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.” “Leonard B. Henderson 1915-2004 Leonard B. Henderson, 89, died at his home on Monday, November 3, 2004, in Bend, OR. He was born August 6, 1915, near Bush City, the son of Boyd and Altha (Dall) Henderson. He went to Minkler country school, located two miles south of Bush City. The building is now located in Bush City as the community building. Leonard went to Colorado when he was 19 years of age, and later went on to Oregon. He worked in a saw mill as a lumber grader for 34 years. He received many certificates for being the best and the fastest grader. Leonard received his high school diploma through correspondence. In 1938, Leonard and Ruby Cochran were married. They were married 63 years before her death in 2001. Leonard enjoyed trap shooting, traveling to many shoots in the northwest, winning many times. When he was 64, he shot 97 out of 100 at four consecutive shoots. Mr. Henderson was also preceded in death by his parents, Boyd and Altha Henderson; his sisters, Florence Osborn and Floye Costley; and his brother, Orin Henderson. Leonard is survived by his brother, Wayne, Liberty Lake, WA; his sisters, Clara Warbritton, Yucipa, CA, Mary Smith, Overbrook, Esther Scott, Independence, and LaVerne Howarter, Welda; and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held Monday, November 8, at Bend, OR.” “Evelyn Sobba 1916-2004 Mass of Christian Burial for Evelyn Sobba, 88, Garnett, was Tuesday, November 9, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Father George Matz and Father Tony Blaufuss officiating. Interment was in Garnett Cemetery. Mrs. Sobba died Friday, November 5, at Lakepoint Care Center in Augusta, where she had been a resident since September 22, 2004. Evelyn Sobba was born October 15, 1916, at Wilmington, IL, the second child and only daughter of Leslie Eugene and Alma Mae (Spicher) Cleveland. She moved to the Sugar Valley area of Anderson County when she was less than two years old. She lived her life since then in the Sugar Valley and Garnett area. She attended Garnett High School and graduated with the Class of 1934. Evelyn worked for the law office of John Bowman and later for the AAA (Agricultural Adjustment Administration) in Garnett. Nearing the end of World War II, she returned to the Sugar Valley area and was employed as office manager/secretary by the Kewanee Oil Company. She worked there until she had children, choosing to stay at home. After they were on their own, she returned to work as bookkeeper and cook for the Holy Angels Lunch Program. Evelyn met the love of her life, Orville Sobba, at a dance in Scipio in 1941. Their courtship continued through World War II, marrying upon his return. She converted to the Catholic faith and they were united in marriage on March 4, 1946, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Garnett. To this union, four children were born. She and Orville moved into town in 1983, following his retirement. Orville, her beloved and devoted husband of nearly 59 years, survives her. Also surviving are her children and their spouses, Gary of LaCygne, Carol and Tom Reiling of Augusta, Cindy and Randy Gannon of Rossville, and Kerry and Ken Bohon of Augusta. She also leaves her beloved grandchildren, Robbie Sobba of Pittsburg, Ryan Sobba of Parker, Michelle Pruitt of Osawatomie, Adam Reiling of Augusta, Monica Reiling, a student at Cowley College, Heather and Brandi Gannon of Rossville, Scott McCollum of Reno, NV; and Rob and Nicole Bohon of Augusta; and three great-grandchildren. Music was provided by Sue Hardman, organist, and Scott Schulte, soloist. Musical selections included “The Dance”, “Remember When”, “One More Day With You”, “Ava Marie”, “How Great Thou Art”, “Amazing Grace”, and “On Eagles Wings’. Casketbearers were Robbie Sobba, Ryan Sobba, Adam Reiling, Scott McCollum, and Rob Bohon. Rosary and visitation were Monday, November 8, at 7:00 p.m. at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel.
