Crist 1925-2004 Funeral services for Milo R. Crist, 78, Garnett, were Saturday, November 20, 2004, at 1:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. H. Wayne Fink and Rev. James Skedel officiating. Interment was in Garnett Cemetery. Military honor guards represented the I&I Staff, 24th Marines, Kansas City, MO, American Legion Post #48, and VFW Post #6397. Mr. Crist died Wednesday, November 17, at Via Christie-St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. Milo R. Crist was born December 19, 1925, at Westphalia, the son of Keil Hartman and Elcie Elizabeth (Nead) Crist. He graduated from Westphalia High School with the Class of 1943. He was Marine Corps staff sergeant during World War II serving in the Pacific Theatre. Milo was a member of American Legion Post #48, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6397, Disabled American Veterans, Compassionate Friends, and First Baptist Church, Garnett. He was a farmer and received the Star Farmer Conservation Award in the early 1960’s. Milo and Lois Clinton were married February 22, 1953, at First Baptist Church in Garnett. Mr. Crist was preceded in death by his daughter, Janice Crist on December 18, 1991; and his parents, Keil and Elcie Crist. Milo is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lois, of the home; his son, Mike Crist and his wife, Joy, of Garnett; his daughters, Connie Scott of Potosi, MO, Lela Scheckel and her husband, Gene, of Owasso, OK, Shirley Orlando and her husband, Jim, of Joplin, MO, and Karen Terrill and her husband, Stuart, of Wichita; his sister, Thelma Herrill of Garnett; his grandchildren, Kim, Caleb, Kyle, Jamie, Amber, Jeffrey, Jenna, and Trevor; and one great-grandchild. Music was provided by Jon Covault, organist, and Earl Rocker, soloist. Musical selections included “I Can Only Imagine”, “The Old Rugged Cross”, “How Great Thou Art”, “Memories”, and “There Is A Happy Land”. Casketbearers were Leonard Davison, Lynn Davison, Bill Dicheser, Calvin Herrill, Chuck Pierce, and Caleb Scheckel. Honorary casketbearers were Paul Bennett, Jeffrey Davison, Dan Fink, Pete Gordon, Owen Heck, Raymond Heck, Carl Nead, Alva Riffey, and Danny Rockers. The family greeted friends on Friday, November 19, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans or the American Diabetes Association. Thompson, 83, Garnett, were Monday, November 22, 2004, at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel with Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment was in Garnett Cemetery. Mrs. Thompson died Thursday, November 18, at Anderson County Hospital Long Term Care Facility. Lelah M. Thompson was born December 23, 1920, at Edgerton, the daughter of Thomas S. and Dora V. (Bristow) Welborn. She attended school in Greeley. Lelah was a seamstress, cook, and a homemaker, but her family was the most important thing to her. She worked as a sewing machine operator at Warner Manufacturing for 10 years. Lelah and Homer G. Thompson were married November 25, 1939, at Halstead. Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Dora Welborn; her brothers, Jim Welborn, Ed Welborn, Tom Welborn, and Charles Welborn; and her sisters, Almeda Baugher and Mary Wilson. Lelah is survived by her husband of 64 years, Homer, of the home; her son, Homer Thompson of Garnett; her daughters, Betty Still and Sharon Rocker, both of Garnett; her brothers, Ralph Welborn of North Carolina and Joe Welborn of South Carolina; her sisters Dora Lewis and Jessie Lowry, both of Garnett; her grandchildren, Carla Skiles, Marc Maley, Lacey Coyer, Erin Shelton, and Ian Rocker; and her great-grandchildren, Nick Skiles, Mason Skiles, Madison Maley, Jacob Maley, Harley Maley, Raven Maley, and Noah Maley. Music was provided by Jeanine Zentner, organist, Erin Shelton, pianist, and Earl Rocker, soloist. Musical selections included “Because He Lives”, “Be Not Afraid”, “Beyond The Sunset”, and “Peace In The Valley”. The military honor guard represented VFW Post #6397 and American Legion Post #48. Mr. Castleberry died Wednesday, November 17. John L. Castleberry was born November 28, 1933, at Osawatomie, the son of Clarence E. and Beulah M. (Cole) Castleberry. He attended school in Osawatomie. He served in the United States Marine Corps from January 11, 1952 to May 20, 1953. John was a lifetime member of VFW Post #6397 and Disabled American Veterans, and was a member of the Assembly of God Church. Mr. Castleberry was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Beulah Castleberry; his brothers, Don, Merle, and Carl; and his sister, Wilda White. John is survived by his sons, Larry Johnson of Osawatomie, and David Castleberry of Galena; his daughter, Daisy Freidline and her husband, Richard, of Cleveland, MO; his brothers, Earl Castleberry of Grantville, Paul Castleberry of Garnett, and Harold Castleberry of Enid, OK; and five grandchildren. Music was provided by Laura Parks, organist, and Richard Parks, soloist. Musical selctions included “Old Rugged Cross”, “In The Garden”, and “Walking After Midnight”. Casketbearers were Kenneth Anderson, Rod Brayton, David Castleberry II, Richard Felt, Louis Freidline, and Richard Freidline.
