Elliott 1920-2004 Funeral services for Glenn M. Elliott, 84, formerly of Welda, were Wednesday, November 24, 2004, at 2:30 p.m. at Welda United Methodist Church with Pastor Bill Nelson officiating. Interment was in Welda Cemetery. Mr. Elliott died Sunday, November 21, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Glenn M. Elliott was born April 24, 1920, at Welda, the son of Guy E. and Fern B. (Collins) Elliott. He graduated from Welda High School with the Class of 1938. He served in the United States Army during World War II in Japan. Glenn lived in the Chapman and Abilene area for 15 years before moving to Lawrence in 1965, where he worked in sales. In 1980, he moved to Welda to farm and produce oil. In 2000, he and Dorothy moved to Lawrence. He was a member of the Lions Club and the Shriners. Glenn and Dorothy Jenkins were married May 31, 1941, at Iola. Mr. Elliott was preceded in death by his son, Glenn Michael Elliott in April, 2000; his parents, Guy and Fern Elliott; and his brother, Earl Elliott in 2002. Glenn is survived by his wife Dorothy, Lawrence; his daughters, Glenda Whalen and her husband, Patrick, of Lawrence, and Jeanne Elliott of Denver; his sisters, Helen Neumann of Hesston and Mary Cross of Overland park; his grandchildren, Mark Snedker, Matthew Elliott, Amy Risley, and Becky Jacobson; and one great-grandson, Joseph Risley. Music was provided by Laura Parks, organist, and Richard Parks, soloist, who sang “Whispering Hope”, “Amazing Grace”, “How Great Thou Art”, and “Red River Valley”. Casketbearers were Matthew Elliott, Kenny Kellstadt, Richard Miller, Chris Molz, Clyde Parks, and Jeff Risley. The family greeted friends from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 23, at the funeral home and following the service at the Welda Community Building. Memorials may be made to Welda United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 2: “Brian Gene Prather 1968-2004 Brian Gene Prather, 36, a loving and caring father, devoted son and brother, died Wednesday evening, November 17, 2004, in a Grand Rapids, MI, hospital after a brief battle with lymphatic cancer. Brian was born June 9, 1968, at Forbes Air Force Base Hospital in Topeka. He attended schools in Michigan, California, Colorado, and England, as his father, a career Air Force senior non-commissioned officer, moved due to military assignment changes. Brian joined the United States Navy in 1987 and served as Quartermaster on the U.S.S. Dewey during the Gulf War. Mr. Prather was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Kathleen Edwards of Westphalia, and Gertrude Prather of Concho, AZ. Left to cherish his memory are his children, son, Blake, and daughters, Brandi and Kennedy; his mother, Sandra, and her husband, Duayne Kraus of Westphalia; his father, William (Bill) Prather and his wife, Jean of Fort Worth, TX; his sister, Andrea and her husband Scott Whitebread of Westphalia; his half-brother, Michael Andres of Lancaster, PA; his step-brother, James Reynolds of London, England; his grandfather, William Leo and his wife, Wanda Prather of Concho, AZ; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Private funeral services were held on Monday, November 22, 2004, at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Westphalia, with interment at St. Teresa Cemetery with Father Ken Kelly officiating. Music was provided by Jeanne Antram, organist. Musical selections included “Go Rest High On That Mountain”, “Close To You”, and “Wind Beneath My Wings”. Casketbearers were Michael Andres, Patrick Bartlett, Jonathon Cooper, Kenneth Cooper, Jr., Colin McKibbin, James Reynolds, and Jamie Riggs.
