Shaffer 1913-2004 Funeral services for Ada M. Shaffer, 91, Wichita, were Monday, December 6, 2004, at Dengel and Son Mortuary, Ottawa, with Pastor Duane Pedrow officiating. Interment was in Garnett Cemetery. Mrs. Shaffer died Thursday, December 2, at Catholic Care Center in Wichita. Ada M. Shaffer was born October 31, 1913, at Montevallo, MO, the daughter of John Walter and Nora Francis (Grant) Briggs. She graduated from Garnett High School with the Class of 1932 and lived in Garnett prior to moving to Princeton in 1942, where she lived at the same location until moving to Wichita three years ago. Ada was employed as a seamstress for H.D. Lee in Ottawa from April, 1955, to January, 1976. She was a member of Princeton Christian Church and was a 50-year member of Family Homemakers Extension Unit. Ada and Harry Shaffer were married February 14, 1971, at Emporia. He preceded her in death on November 6, 1990. Mrs. Shaffer was also preceded in death by her parents, John and Nora Briggs; her sister, Leona Moon; her brother, Clifford Briggs; and her grandson, Johnny Dean Coats. Ada is survived by her daughters and husbands, Kay and Les Hole, and Marie and Wayne Hole, all of Wichita; her son Dean Coats of Missouri; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Memorials are suggested to Princeton Christian Church, Aldersgate United Methodist Endowment Fund, or Catholic Care Ceenter. Dengel and Son Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 2: “Helen Marie Drum 1923-2004 Mass of Christian Burial for Helen M. Drum, 81, Emporia, was Wednesday, December 1, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emporia, with Father Darren Henson officiating. Interment was in St. Teresa Catholic Cemetery in Westphalia that afternoon. Mrs. Drum died Sunday, November 28, at Newman Regional Health in Emporia. Helen Marie Drum was born on June 12, 1923, near Westphalia, the daughter of Jake F. and Stella (List) Schulte. She grew up in Westphalia and, after high school graduation, worked in the office of the County Superintendent in the Anderson County Courthouse until she was married in 1947. She lived most of her life in Westphalia, moving to Emporia in 1993. She devoted her life as a homemaker. Family and friends were her life. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, as well as the Church Altar Society. Helen and William E. Drum were married on April 14, 1947, at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Westphalia. He preceded her in death on June 16, 2001. Mrs. Drum was also preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Stella Schulte; and her sister, Eileen Osterholt. Helen is survived by her sons, Larry Drum of Emporia, and Greg Drum and his wife, Trudy, of Lawrence; her daughter, Nancy Sauer and her husband, Max, of Lyons; her brother, Lester Schulte of Omaha, NE; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The Rosary was recited at the church on Tuesday, November 30, at 7:30 p.m. Memorials have been established to the Emporia Friends of the Zoo or the American Cancer Society. Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia, was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 3: “Rebecca Marie Jones 1980-2004 Funeral services for Rebecca Marie Jones, 24, Osawatomie, were Monday, December 6, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel with Father George Matz officiating. Interment was in St. Boniface Cemetery, Scipio. Miss Jones died Thursday, December 2, at Miami County Hospital in Paola. Rebecca Marie Jones was born April 12, 1980, at Garnett, the daughter of Kenneth and Debbie (Kratzberg) Jones. Miss Jones was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Nick Kratzberg; and her paternal grandparents, James and Loretta Jones. Rebecca is survived by her parents, Kenneth and Debbie Jones of Iola; her brothers, Thomas Jones, Brian Jones, Kevin Jones, and Ricky Jones, all of Iola; her sisters, Melissa Beal of Bonner Springs, Crystal Jones of Iola, Laurie Hegwald of Humboldt, and Tracy Jones of Iola; her grand-mother, Elsie Kratzberg of Greeley; two nieces, two nephews, and several aunts and uncles. Music was provided by Jeanine Zentner, organist, and Amber Kratzberg, soloist. Musical selections included “Be Not Afraid”, “The Old Rugged Cross”, “How Great Thou Art”, “When You Come Back To Me Again”, and “One More Day”. Casketbearers were Chris Hammond, Jason Hegwald, Brian Jones, Kevin Jones, Ricky Jones, Thomas Jones, Leroy Kratzberg, and Eric Perez. A Wake Service was held Sunday, December 5, at 7:00 p.m. with visitation following at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
