Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment was in Garnett Cemetery. Mr. Giffin died Thursday, January 27, at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka. Carl D. Giffin was born July 21, 1943, at Garnett, the son of Lawrence L. and Maxine (Jackson) Giffin. He graduated from Parker High School with the Class of 1962. Carl worked for the City of Lawrence in the Sanitation Department as a truck driver from 1965 to 2003, retiring in 2003. He loved to go camping and loved to go to all his grandchildren’s sporting events. Carl and Laura Sutton were married June 12, 1965, at Oskaloosa. Carl is survived by his wife, Laura, of the home; his son, Mike Giffin and his wife, Debbie, of Oskaloosa; his daughters, Lois Jolliff and her husband, Leonard, and Tracy Hooper and her husband, Daniel, all of Garnett; his mother, Maxine Giffin of Garnett; his sister, Sandra Canada of Parker; his brothers, Johnnie Giffin of Olathe and Roger Giffin of Independence, MO; and seven grandchildren. Music was provided by Pam McSwane, organist, and Shirley Hill, vocalist. Musical selections included “One Day At A Time”, “Old Rugged Cross”, and “I’m Already There”. Casketbearers were Mike Giffin, Leonard Jolliff, Daniel Hooper, Joshua Jolliff, Andy Jolliff, Shawn Jolliff, Eric Canada, David Giffin, and Scott Giffin. The family greeted friends on Sunday, January 30, 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Carl’s grandchildren’s education fund. Drum, 91, Westphalia, is Friday, February 4, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Teresa Catholic Church, Westphalia. Interment is in St. Teresa Cemetery. Mr. Drum died Tuesday, February 1, at Golden Heights Living Center, Garnett. A Wake Service was Thursday, February 3, at 7:00 p.m. with visitation following at the church. Arlene Talbott-Swank, 67, Pomona, are Friday, February 4, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at Dengel and Son Mortuary, Ottawa, with Rev. Katrina Palan officiating. Interment is in Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Mrs. Talbott-Swank died Monday, January 31, at her home. L. Arlene Talbott-Swank was born September 12, 1937, at Garnett, the daughter of Clyde Leland and Minnie L. (Smith) Berry. She graduated form Richmond High School with the Class of 1955 and was a lifelong Franklin County resident. Arlene began employment as a teller, then became a personal banker. She worked for Anchor Savings Association and Bank Four, both of Ottawa, more than 20 years. She was a member of First Christian Church; Union Chapter #15, Order of the Eastern Star; Ottawa Assembly #136, Social Order of the Beauceant; Ottawa Shrine #19, White Shrine of Jerusalem; and Retta Conclave #8, Order of True Kindred, all of Ottawa. Arlene and Charles Marion Talbott were married October 16, 1955, at Richmond. He preceded her in death. On April 18, 2001, Arlene was united in marriage with Wayne Swank at First United Methodist Church of Williamsburg. Mrs. Talbott-Swank was also preceded in death by her son, Keith Talbott; her daughter, Charlene Talbott; and her parents, Clyde and Minnie Berry. Arlene is survived by her husband, Wayne, of the home; her daughters, Kristi Baker of Princeton and Barbara Ledom of Ottawa; her sister, Phyllis Donaldson of Topeka; her brother, Carl Berry of West Des Moines, IA; her grandsons, Curtis and Christopher Baker; her granddaughter, Shana Ledom; her step-granddaughters, Jerri Beckwith and Maria Lear; and four step-great-grandchildren. The family greeted friends on Thursday, February 3, 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Midland Hospice.
