Adkinson 1918-2005 Funeral Mass for Mildred M. Adkinson, 86, Garnett, was Friday, February 25, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Greeley with Father George Matz officiating. Interment was in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery. Mrs. Adkinson died Tuesday, February 22, at Anderson County Hospital Long Term Care Facility. Mildred M. Adkinson was born April 6, 1918, at Greeley, the daughter of Frank and Margaret (Hochstatter) Miller. She grew up in Greeley and lived there until moving to Garnett in 1979. Mildred worked as a cook at St. John’s School and as a clerk at Oswald Liquor Store in Greeley. After moving to Garnett, she worked as the bookkeeper at Mersman’s Conoco. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and the Altar Society in Greeley. After moving to Garnett, she belonged to Holy Angels Catholic Church and Altar Society. Mildred was married to Rex Adkinson. Six children were born to this union. They later divorced. Mrs. Adkinson was preceded in death by her sons, Dale Adkinson and Pat Adkinson; her parents, Frank and Margaret Miller; her brother, Don Miller; her sister, Lorene Rockers; and her son-in-law, John Mersman. Mildred is survived by her son, Don Adkinson and his wife, Pat, of Lenexa; her daughters, Jean Mersman of Garnett, Lois Adams of Olathe, and Linda Adkinson of Waverly; her brother, Harold Miller and his wife, Helen, of Greeley; her daughter-in-law, Doris Adkinson of Richmond; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Music was provided by Laura Parks, organist, and Scott Schulte, vocalist. Musical selections included “The Old Rugged Cross”, “On This Day O Beautiful Mother”, “Ave Maria”, and “Precious Memories”. Casketbearers were Mildred’s grandsons, Pat Adkinson, Jr., Rick Adkinson, Rodney Adkinson, Jeff Chandler, Craig Adkinson, Chad Sommer, and John D. Mersman. Honorary casketbearers were Mildred’s granddaughters, Carla Kinsey, Mary Pickert, Denise Bates, Jackie Chandler, Jodi Steele, Jeri McElwain, and Kim Sommer. Memorials may be made to Holy Angels School or the American Cancer Society. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 2: “Juliette “Jukie” Marmon 1926-2005 Memorial services for Juliette “Jukie” Kueser Marmon, 78, Topeka, formerly of Garnett, are Saturday, March 5, 2005, at 4:00 p.m. at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel with Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Mrs. Marmon died Thursday, February 24, at Topeka. Juliette Marmon was born April 2, 1926, at Scipio, the daughter of Henry and Gertrude Kueser. She was the seventh of eight children in her family. Jukie lived in Centerville and Garnett for most of her life. She was a bookkeeper, having worked for a rural water district and for Sohigro of Garnett. Jukie and Vernon Hunt were married in 1953. One daughter was born to this union. Jukie and Ray Marmon were married in 1978 in Hawaii. She loved life and her family. She enjoyed the outdoors, bird watching, fishing and camping. Mrs. Marmon was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Gertrude Kueser; and five brothers and sisters. Jukie is survived by her husband, Ray, of Topeka; a son, Randy Marmon of Topeka; her daughter, Vicki Montgomery of Topeka; her sisters, Marcella “Markey” Serene of Garnett and Joyce Jellison of Arleta, CA; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The family will greet friends from 3:00-4:00 p.m. on Saturday prior to the service. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 3: “L.F. Drake 1918-2005 Funeral services for L.F. “Duck” Drake, 86, Garnett, formerly of the Bronson area, were Monday, February 28, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Moran Chapel, Moran, with Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment was in Bronson Cemetery. Mr. Drake died Thursday, February 24, at Guest Home Estates, Garnett.
