F. “Duck” Drake 1918-2005 Funeral services for L. F. “Duck” Drake, 85, Garnett, formerly of the Bronson area, were Monday, February 28, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Moran Chapel in Moran with Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment was in Bronson Cemetery. Mr. Drake died Thursday, February 24, at Guest Home Estates in Garnett. L. F. Drake was born December 17, 1918, at Blue Mound, the son of Rankin and Harrie “Hattie” (Wili) Hayes. He grew up and attended public schools in Blue Mound. He enlisted in the United States Army on February 25, 1943, and served his country during World War II as a Platoon Sergeant in the 751st Tank Battalion. He received a Good Conduct Medal and a Bronze Service Arrowhead. He was discharged on October 23, 1945. Duck and Audrey Ellington were married September 10, 1949, at Iola. They moved to Bronson from Iola in 1950. They later spent eight years in California before moving to Garnett in 1990. He was a self-employed soil conservationist. He and Audrey also owned and operated the Chicken Shack in Bronson from 1965 to 1981. He was a member and Past Master of Boubon Lodge #268 in Bronson, a Past Worthy Patron of the O.E.S. #65 of Bronson, and a member of the Church of the Nazarene. He had been attending First Christian Church in Garnett. Mr. Drake was preceded in death by his parents, Rankin and Harrie Hayes. Duck is survived by his wife, Audrey, of Garnett; his daughter, Marsha Deer of Show Low, AZ; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his sister, Maxine Smith, of Fort Scott. Memorials in his name may be made to Guest Home Estates. Penwell-Gable Moran Chapel was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 2: “Linda Tesar 1944-2005 Memorial services for Linda Tesar, 60, Ottawa, are Thursday, March 3, 2005, at 7:00 p.m. at Dengel and Son Mortuary in Ottawa with Pastor Scott Dickinson officiating. Cremation is planned. Private inurnment will be held at Princeton Cemetery. Mrs. Tesar died Friday, February 25, at her home. Linda Tesar was born December 13, 1944, at Ottawa, the daughter of Evan Seymour and Dorothy May (Dodd) Lloyd. She was a lifelong Franklin County resident. Linda graduated from Princeton High School with the Class of 1962 and from Lawrence School of Cosmetology in 1970. She was owner of, and beautician at, The Rainbow Beauty Bar in Ottawa for 35 years. She was involved in the “Look Good, Feel Better” program through the Franklin County Cancer Foundation. Linda and Anthony E. Tesar were married July 17, 1965, at Ottawa. They later divorced. Mrs. Tesar was preceded in death by her parents, Evan and Dorothy Lloyd. Linda is survived by her son, Mark Tesar of Fontana; her sister, Connie Womble of Pittsburg, her brother, John E. Lloyd of Spring Hill; her grandchildren, Christopher Tesar, Tyler Tesar, and Megan Tesar; and several nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials to the Franklin County Cancer Foundation.
