Melton 1912-2005 Private family services for Mary L. Melton, 92, Garnett, were Sunday afternoon, February 27, 2005, at Mt. Moriah in Kansas City. Mrs. Melton died Thursday, February 24, at Golden Heights Living Center. Mary L. Melton was born June 29, 1912, at Tekamah, NE, the daughter of Harry and Carrie Velma (Lytton) Hemping. She had moved to Golden Heights five years ago from Kansas City to be near family. She is survived by her step-sister, Suzanne Ledorf of Birmingham, MI; her niece, Jane Abbott-Rolf; and her nephews, George Edward Abbott, Craig Melton Abbott, Robert E. Abbott, Jr., and Patrick O’Donnell.” “Marvin D. “Ike” Zornes 1930-2005 Funeral services for Marvin D. “Ike” Zornes, 74, rural Moran, were Saturday, March 5, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at First Assembly of God Church in Iola with Pastors Jason Pickering and Marshall I.J. Lackrone officiating. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery in Mildred. Mr. Zornes died Wednesday, March 2, at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, MO. Marvin D. Zornes was born September 29, 1930, the son of William L. and Emma (Hess) Zornes. He farmed and lived on the farm where he was born all of his life. He graduated from Moran High School in 1949. Marvin and Phyllis I. Whitcomb Bower were married May 25, 1984, at Hope Chapel near Bronson. They attended the First Assembly of God Church in Iola. He enjoyed fishing with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He has hunted for years with family and friends. Mr. Zornes was preceded in death by his son, Marvin W. “Ikey” Zornes; his brothers, Wesley Zornes and Wyman “Cap” Zornes; and his sisters, Lucile Catron and Evelyn Zornes. Marvin is survived by his wife, Phyllis, of the home; his daughters, Paula Morrow and her husband, Bill, of St. Louis, MO, Rebecca Wolfe of Iola, and Tina Jones and her husband, Jim, of Mildred; his step-son, Steve Bower and his wife, Robin, of Winfield; his step-daughter, Lori Evans and her husband, Jon, of Moran; two sons-in-law with whom he farmed and raised cattle, Kem Colgin of Mildred and Albert Nelson of Stark; his brother, Russell Zornes of Iola; 20 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Memorial Chapel, Iola, was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 4: “Kelly Jo Morrison 1968-2005 Funeral services for Kelly Jo Morrison, 37, Garnett, are Thursday, March 10, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel with Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment is in Goodrich Cemetery. Mrs. Morrison died Sunday, March 6, at Anderson County Hospital Long Term Care after a courageous 10 year battle with cancer.
