Mrs. Dixon died Tuesday, March 22, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, MO. Arlene Dixon was born February 2, 1926, at Centerville. She graduated from Kincaid High School in 1943. Arlene attended Pittsburg State College for one summer and taught school for two years. In 1963, she went to work for the Anderson County Hospital, and in 1965, she went to work for the State Highway Commission, retiring in 1979. She had a passion for gardening and she loved to crochet, making crocheted names for many people. Arlene was a member of the United Methodist Church in Garnett and the Eagles in Ottawa. Arlene married Hillis Hester on November 26, 1944. To this union two sons, Gary Hester and Larry Hester, were born. This marriage ended in divorce in 1947. Arlene married Jack E. Daly on April 25, 1951, and to this union, one daughter, Christine, and one son, David, were born. Jack died in 1960. Arlene married Roy B. Dixon on December 22, 1975. He preceded her in death in January, 2002. Mrs. Dixon was also preceded in death by her mother, Bernice Husted; her Uncle Floyd, who helped raise her from the age of three; her son, Gary Hester; her daughter, Christine Roblcado; and her sister, Louise Henderson. Arlene is survived by her sons, Larry Hester and his wife, Trisha, and David Daily; her sister, Florence Davidson; her grandsons, Chat Hester and Jason Hester; two great-grandsons, one great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews. The family suggest memorials to the American Diabetes Association. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 3: “Harley G. Lickteig 1940-2005 Mass of Christian Burial for Harley G. Lickteig, 64, Garnett, was Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Father George Matz and Father Tony Blaufuss concelebrants. Interment was in Holy Angels Cemetery. Mr. Lickteig died Saturday, March 19, at his home. Harley G. Lickteig was born May 7, 1940, at Garnett, the son of August and Mary (Jockman) Lickteig. He was the truck boss for the Anderson County Road Department, where he worked from 1983 until retiring on February 1, 2005. He was a farmer and custom fence builder, as well as co-owner with his wife of the Burgerteria Restaurant in Garnett from 1985-2001. Harley was a member of Holy Angels Church, Holy Angels Parish Council, Holy Angels School Council, Garnett Optimist Club, was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and he enjoyed his local bowling league. Harley and Beryl Blankenbeker were married November 28, 1970, at Ottawa. Three children were born to this union. Mr. Lickteig was preceded in death by his parents, August and Mary Lickteig. Harley is survived by his wife, Beryl, of the home; his son, Charles Lickteig of Martinsburg, PA; his daughters, Michelle Lickteig of Lee’s Summit, MO, and Lynette Lickteig and her fiancé Kent Pouncil of Grain Valley, MO; his brothers, Marvin Lickteig and his wife Joan, of Olathe, Cecil Lickteig and his wife Dorothy, of Garnett, Glen Lickteig and his wife Doris, of Garnett, Eugene Lickteig and his wife Stacey, of Shawnee, and Roy Lickteig and his wife Joyce, of Gas; and his sisters, Juliana Mader and her husband Joe, of Garnett, Ora Lee O’Brien of Garnett, Carmen Holmes of Peru, IN; and Margaret Cunningham and her husband Ron, of Shawnee. Music was provided by Mary Milner, organist, and Greg Mader, vocalist. Musical selections included “On Eagle’s Wings”, “Peace In The Valley”, and “Precious Memories”. Casketbearers were Rick Ellis, Larry Foltz, Jeff Manspeaker, Lyle Schulter, Andy Thacker, and Lester Welsh. Honorary casketbearers were Marvin Lickteig, Cecil Lickteig, Glen Lickteig, Eugene Lickteig, Roy Lickteig, and Otto Klusman. A Rosary Service was held Tuesday, March 22, at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Angels Church. The family suggests memorials to Holy Angels Church or Holy Angels School.
