Mrs. Madden died Tuesday, March 22, at Village West in Ottawa. Rosa Violet Maddan was born November 8, 1901, at Brownington, MO, the daughter of Charles Isaac and Jemima Eunice (Bradley) Scrogham. She moved with her family in 1910 to Amoret, MO; to Foster, MO, in 1912; and to Hutchinson, KS, in 1930, returning to Foster for a short time before her marriage. Rosa graduated from Foster High School in Foster, MO, with the Class of 1920. Rosa and Ellis John Maddan were married June 26, 1940, at Garnett. After their marriage, they moved to a little farm northwest of Pleasanton. Several years later, they sold their farm and traveled through the western states, visiting relatives and the national parks, with their last stop in Long Beach, CA, to visit family. They moved to Ottawa in 1956. He preceded her in death on January 22, 1966. She was a lifelong homemaker. Rosa also worked as a sales clerk in a grocery and dry good store in Foster until 1930 and then as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell in Hutchinson for a short time. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Ottawa. Mrs. Maddan was also preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Jemima Scrogham; her sister, Almeda Pearl LeDuc; and her brothers, Oscar Milton Scrogham and Richard Earl Scrogham. Rosa is survived by her nephews, Melvin Ray McCullough of Rich Hill, MO, and Dale Wright of Roberts, MT; and her great-niece, Violet Gregory of Amsterdam, MO. The family suggests memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church of Ottawa or Youthville. Dengel and Son Mortuary, Ottawa, was in charge of arrangements.” “Earl Eugene Roberts 1940-2005 Earl Eugene Roberts, 64, of Bandera, TX, formerly of Garnett, passed away March 24, 2005, at the VA Hospital in San Antonio, TX. Earl Eugene Roberts was born August 24, 1940, the son of Earl and Ina (Teters) Roberts. He was the only son of four children. Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by his mother and father; one sister, Alice Marie Kirkpatrick; and one step-daughter, Vicki Jo Heid. Earl is survived by his wife, Doris, of the home; three step-sons, J.W. Roberts and Johnny and Debbie Prevalte, all of Bandera, TX, and Roy Prevate; one step-daughter, Dee Dee McMillan of Washington, IL; two sisters, Betty and Jim Moyer of Garnett and Mary and Ralph Pettry of Adrian, MO; nine step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
