Dick, Sr. 1914-2005 Graveside services for William ‘Bob’ V. Dick, Sr. 91, of Topeka was Saturday, April 2, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at the Garden Chapel at Topeka Cemetery. Mr. Dick died Tuesday, March 29, at Plaza West Regional Health Center. William ‘Bob’ V. Dick, Sr. was born March 28, 1914, in Osage City, the son of Isaiah and Maude (Oswald) Dick. He was a United States Army veteran serving in the South Pacific Campaign during World War II. Mr. Dick and his wife owned and operated Bob’s Tavern for several years. He retired from the City of Topeka in 1976. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Bob and Pearl I. Miller were married January 24, 1949, at Holton. She preceded him in death on June 19, 1987. Mr. Dick was also preceded in death by his daughter, Norma Brown, on February 27, 1995; four brothers and two sisters. Bob is survived by his son, William V. Dick, Jr. of Garnett; his daughter, Betty Downs of Topeka; his sister, Grace Artzer of Topeka; three grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several step-great-grandchildren. Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, Topeka, was in charge of arrangements.” “Shirley Ann Stevenson Funeral services for Shirley Ann Stevenson, 67, Ottawa, were Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel. Interment was in Garnett Cemetery.” Page 5, Column 3: “Elaine ‘Shorty’ Sobba 1949-2005 Mass of Christian Burial for Elaine ‘Shorty’ Sobba, 55, of Garnett, was Saturday, April 2, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Scipio with Father Emil Agostino as celebrant. Lectors were Leah Sobba and Elaine Alexander. Interment was in Holy Angels Cemetery. Ms. Sobba died Thursday, March 31, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Elaine Sobba was born December 26, 1949, at Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Lewis and Louise (Wolken) Sobba. She graduated from Central Heights High School with the Class of 1967. Ms. Sobba was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Louise Sobba. Elaine is survived by her daughter, Theresa Read and her husband, Justin, of Kansas City, MO; her brother, Leon Sobba and his wife, Linda, of Ellinwood, three nephews and one niece. Music was provided by Jolyne Alexander, organist, and Christy Hunt, cantor. Musical selections included “Be Not Afraid”, “Shepherd Me, O God”, “You Are Mine”, “I Am the Bread of Life”, and “On Eagles Wings”. Casketbearers were Luke Sobba, Travis Alexander, Leo Sobba, Dennis Hastert, Lyle Sobba, and Dan Kipper. The family suggests memorials to help defray medical expenses. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.” “James H. Sutton, Sr. 1920-2005 Graveside services and interment for James H. Sutton, Sr., 85, Coffeyville, were Thursday, March 12, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery, Elk City, KS, with Brother James Hardin officiating. Mr. Sutton died March 7, at Coffeyville. James H. Sutton, Sr. was born January 4, 1920, at Bush City, the son of Roy and Margaret Sutton. He served four years in the United States Army. While serving in World War II, he was among those soldiers who fought on Normandy Beach on D-Day. He was injured three times, received the Purple Heart with two oak leaf clusters, and three Bronze Stars. James was honorably discharged after returning to the States wounded on July 19, 1945. James and Maxine John were married on September 18, 1945. James worked for 22 years running heavy equipment for Anderson County. He later worked as the marshal for Greeley and Colony during the 1970’s. Mr. Sutton was preceded in death by two brothers, four sisters, and one grandchild, Ricky Bishop of Princeton. James is survived by his wife, Maxine, of Coffeyville; his daughters, Marilyn Roberts of Little Rock, AR, Edna Bishop of Princeton, Martha Wood of Independence, and Darla Robertson of Elk City; his son, James H. Sutton, Jr. of Caney; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Casketbearers were Jimmy Sutton III, Larry Sutton, Mike Sutton, Jeremy Robertson, Nathan Rail, and Dale Davis. Vann Funeral Services of Coffeyville was in charge of arrangements.” “Alice E. Crotts Funeral services for Alice E.
