Crotts 1913-2005 Funeral services for Alice E. Crotts, 92, Garnett, were Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at First Christian Church in LeRoy with Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment was in Logue Cemetery, LeRoy. Mrs. Crotts died Sunday, April 3, at Golden Heights Living Center in Garnett. Alice E. Crotts was born February 18, 1913, at Reese, KS, the daughter of John Lewis and Sadie Viola (Gray) Porter. She attended LeRoy High School where she took the normal training course to prepare to teach school. She graduated in 1932 and received her two-year teaching certificate. She taught in a one-room country school for two years before going to Eureka where she worked for a semi-invalid lady. She liked to sew and embroidery, fishing, and gardening. Alice was a member of the First Christian Church, secretary and treasurer of her Sunday School class, and held different offices in CWF, and was a Senior Center Board member, all of LeRoy. Alice met Virgil Orville Crotts in the Fall of 1932 and they were married April 5, 1935, at LeRoy. This union was blessed with seven children. Virgil was engaged in farming in the LeRoy area. In 1937 they moved to a farm northwest of Virgil. From there they moved back to LeRoy in 1943 where they purchased a farm east of LeRoy. Her preceded her in death on March 10, 1969. Following his death, Alice had a farm sale but remained on the farm for a year before purchasing a home in LeRoy. Her son, Larry, moved to the farm to take over the farming before eventually purchasing it from Alice. In 1996 she sold her home in LeRoy and bought a small place in Garnett where she would be closer to her doctor and daughter Marilyn. After moving to Garnett, she attended the Garnett First Christian Church. Mrs. Crotts was also preceded in death by her parents, John and Sadie Porter; four brothers, two sisters; one grandson; and one great-grandson. Alice is survived by her sons, Larry Crotts and his wife, Catherine, of Burlington, Eddie Crotts and his wife, Carol, of LeRoy, and Bruce Crotts and his wife, Maria, of Henderson, NV; her daughters, Lucretia Spencer of Welda, Patricia McGhee and her husband, Donald, of Iola, Viola Wilson and her husband, Larry, of Hartford, and Marilyn Foltz and her husband, Norman ‘Butch’, of Garnett; her brother, Earl Porter, of Virgil; her sisters, Erma Wallace of Eureka, Thelma Thompson of Grandby, CO, Hazel Schadegg of Meade, and Corinne McClasky of Gridley; 21 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. Music was provided by Gayla Crotts, organist, and Jarvis Brink, soloist. Musical selections included “Ivory Palaces”, “Beyond the Sunset”, and “Beautiful Isles Of Somewhere”. Casketbearers were Terry Wilson, Mike Wilson, Darren Foltz, Ryan Foltz, Jeff Crotts, and Jeremy Crotts. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church in Garnett or First Christian Church in LeRoy. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 2: “Virginia ‘Ginny’ B. Miller 1938-2005 Funeral services for Virginia ‘Ginny’ B. Miller, 66, of Garnett, were Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at First Christian Church with Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment was in Garnett Cemetery. Mrs. Miller died Sunday, April 3, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. Virginia B. Miller was born April 27, 1938, at Bush City, the daughter of Jesse F. and Ruth B. (Cass) Thompson. She spent most of her childhood in Welda, graduating from Welda High School where she met and married her husband, Gerald Miller. They were married on October 27, 1957, and to this union three children were born, Randy, Cindy, and Gerry. They spent most of their adult lives in Kansas City, Denver, San Diego, and back to the Kansas City area before returning to Garnett where they have lived for the last 20 years at “The Elk Farm” south of town. A lifelong horse lover, Ginny enjoyed her horses and raising all kinds of exotic animals, including her ‘house’ raised elk cow named ‘Princess’ who still believes Ginny is her mother. Ginny loved the outdoors and being physically active and was a generous and outgoing person who would much rather give to her children and grandchildren than give to herself. She was talented in art, decorating, and working on her homes. Ginny was a homemaker for many years and in the 1970’s, worked at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City as the Head Technician in the EKG Department where she was recognized as one of the best. She worked the last 15 years managing the office and retail store of their pool business. Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her sons, Randy and Gerry; her father, Jesse; and her step-father, Glenn Huggins. Ginny is survived by her husband of 47 years, Gerald; her mother, Ruth Huggins of Garnett; her daughter, Cindy Lowe and husband, Kenny, and grandsons, Cody, Colton, and Chance Lowe, all of Garnett, and Travis Lowe of North Richland Hill, TX; her granddaughter, Randi Miller and her daughter-in-law, Becky Miller, of Pleasant Hill, MO; her sister, Norma Tilton of Lone Elm, her father-and mother-in-law, Frank and Lois Miller of Garnett; her sister-in-law, Lorraine Stewart of Loyal, OK; and her brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Dorothy Miller, also of Garnett. Dorothy was a great comfort and support and very dedicated to Ginny during hours of need. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Musical selections included “You Light Up My Life”, “All I Ever Need Is You”, and “Love Me Tender”. Casketbearers were Travis Lowe, Cody Lowe, Colton Lowe, Chance Lowe, Tom Miller, and Troy Stewart. Honorary casketbearers were Gene Hunsaker and Danny Tilton. Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the Hospice Care of Kansas. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 3: “Shirley Ann Stevenson 1938-2005 Funeral services for Shirley Ann Stevenson, 67, of Ottawa, formerly of Garnett, were Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel in Garnett with Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment was in Garnett Cemetery. Mrs. Stevenson died Friday, April 1, at Olathe Medical Center. Shirley Ann Stevenson was born February 6, 1938, at New Albany, IN, the daughter of Otto Millard Amy and Loleta Mae (Tipton) Spears. She was a homemaker. Shirley worked in various jobs outside the home until 1993. She loved animals, especially dogs and riding horses. She also liked genealogy, making jewelry, scrap booking, and puzzles. Shirley and Larry Stevenson were married March 23, 1964, at Clinton, MO. Mrs. Stevenson was preceded in death by her parents, Otto Millard Amy and Loleta Mae Spears; her step-father, Leonard Spears; and her step-son, David L. Stevenson in 1993. Shirley is survived by her husband, Larry, of the home; her sons, Darrel Gourley of Hutchinson and David T. Parker and his wife, Mary, of Ottawa; her step-son, Mark Stevenson and his wife, Laurie, of Richmond; her daughter, Kathryn Rae Parker of Waukesha, WI; her sisters, Nancy Skaggs and Joyce Harrison, both of Clinton, MO, Jackie Nichols of Lowry City, MO, Betty Teter of Garnett, and Mari Bionaz of Weiser, ID; her half-sisters, Janet Anderson and Janice Louviere, both of Lake Jackson, TX, and Mary Lou Amy of Atlanta, GA; her grandchildren, Randy Kress, Amy Miller, Dusty Parker and his wife, Jessica, DeAmbra Stevenson, Jacob Stevenson, Matthew Stevenson, and Michaela Stevenson; and her great-grandchildren, Hayley Miller, Shayley Miller, Kara Miller, Page Kress, and Zachary ‘Lovey’ Parker.
