Gilliland 1928-2005 Funeral services for Robert D. Gilliland, 77, Colony, were Wednesday, May 18, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel in Colony with Pastor Charles Towne officiating. Interment was in Colony Cemetery. Mr. Gilliland died Monday, May 16, at his home. Robert D. Gilliland was born January 2, 1928, at Colony, the son of Joe and Edith (Byfield) Gilliland. He was a lifetime resident of the Colony area. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 10 years before he built, owned, and operated Gilliland Service Station in Colony from 1957-1991. Robert was a member of the Colony Christian Church and served as a Deacon, and was a former member of the Colony Lions Club. He enjoyed fishing and camping with his family. Robert and Betty Pearl Sherwood were married July 21, 1948, at Iola. She preceded him in death on January 21, 1997. Mr. Gilliland was also preceded in death by his grandson, Devin Gilliland; his parents, Joe and Edith Gilliland; his brother, Kenneth Gilliland; and his sisters, Helen Anderson, Arvilla Helms, Wilma McGhee, and Lillie Dickerson. Robert is survived by his son, Leslie Dean Gilliland and his wife, Arlene, of Colony; his daughters, Linda J. De Coursey and her husband, James III, of Topeka, and Karen L. Marlier and her husband, David, of Fort Scott; his brothers, Lee Gilliland of Overland Park, Lawrence Gilliland of Kincaid, and Roy Gilliland of Iola; and his grandchildren, Remington and Ithaca Marlier, and Kaylee, Kolbie, and Kurston Gilliland. Music was provided by Beverly Wittmer, pianist, and Kloma Buckles, vocalist. Musical selections included “Nearer To The Heart of God” and “Amazing Grace”. Casketbearers were Richard Crabtree, James De Coursey III, Eugene Dickerson, Richard Gilliland, Rollin Gilliland, and Scott Pliler. The family suggests memorials to Allen County Hospice or Colony Christian Church. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.” “Inez A. Walker 1945-2005 Funeral services for Inez A. Walker, 59, Colony, are Saturday, May 21, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel in Colony. Interment is in Colony Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Colony on Friday, May 20, 7:00-8:00 p.m. Mrs. Walker died Tuesday, May 17, at KU Medical Center, Kansas City, KS. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.” “Yolanda Lou Seebers Graveside inurnment services for Yolanda Lou Seebers, 74, are Saturday, May 21, 2005, at Kincaid Cemetery. Ms. Seebers died October 21, 2004, at Mesa, AZ, and had been living with Corine and Wendell Howarter for six months before passing away.
