Katzer 1913-2005 Mass of Christian Burial for Clarence H. Katzer, 91, Garnett, was Saturday, June 11, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church, Greeley, with Father Tony Lickteig officiating. Interment was in St. John’s Cemetery. Mr. Katzer died Thursday, June 9, at Golden Heights Living Center, Garnett. Clarence H. Katzer was born October 10, 1013, at Greeley, the son of Adolph and Katherine (Kueser) Katzer. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Clarence was a member of St. John’s Church and was active in the Greeley Senior Citizens. He was an avid fisherman and Royals fan. Clarence retired from Greeley Co-Op in 1976. Clarence and Rita B. Gretencord were married April 30, 1941, at Richmond. She preceded him in death on December 27, 1999. Mr. Katzer was also preceded in death by his brothers, Frank, Bernard ‘Bus’, Art, and Lee; and his sisters, Mary Hastert, Agnes Lickteig, and Marge Rockers. Clarence is survived by his sons, Bob Katzer and his wife, Shirley, and Tom Katzer and his wife, Mary, all of Greeley; his daughters, Marlyn Burkhardt and her husband, Bob, of Maple Hill, and Carolyn Pruegert and her husband, Tony, of Oklahoma City, OK; his sister, Jean Livingston of Garnett; his grandchildren, Lisa, Cinda, Jeff, Shelly, Tammy, Ryan, and Bryce; his step-grandchildren, Randy, Kristi, and Josh; 11 great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren; and his sister-in-law, Christina Katzer of Louisburg. Music was provided by Mary Milner, organist, and the children of Marge and Irvin Rockers as vocalists. Musical selections included “I Can Only Imagine”, “Our Father”, “Ave Maria”, “Nearer My God To Thee”, and “Daddy’s Hands”. Casketbearers were Bernetta Bach, Donna Watmore, Ray Katzer, Glenn Hastert, Ronald Katzer, Barry Rocker, Steve Sheeler, and Jack Livingston. The family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 4: “Doris Eileen Vance 1924-2005 Funeral services for Doris Eileen Vance, 80, Garnett, were Friday, June 10, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel with Elder Bill Horner and Conrad Wetzel officiating. Interment was in Bethel Cemetery, Westphalia. Mrs. Vance died following a prolonged illness on Monday, June 6, at Anderson County Hospital. Doris Eileen Vance was born August 8, 1924, at Tennessee, IL. She was the third of fourteen children born to Harry Allen and Gertrude (Carson) Wetzel. On June 22, 1945, she was married to Samuel Vance, who preceded her in death. For many years, Doris made her home in rural Colchester, IL. In recent years, she resided in rural Westphalia. She was baptized as a teenager at the Camp Creek Church of the Brethren, Colchester, IL, and during the last years of her life she was a member of the United Methodist church in Garnett. Doris was a well-loved sister, mother, and friend. She enjoyed many aspects of living, including playing her guitar and singing with family and friends, helping others, playing with her cats, and visiting with neighbors and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Vance was also preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Kahlke; three sons, Rex Yaeger Vance, Rex Allen Kinniken, and Gregory Avery; and one brother. Doris is survived by her son, Chester Vance of Woodruff, WI; her daughters, Vergene Olarsen of Phoenix, AZ, Twila Ferguson of Liberty, MO, Ladora Ebaerle of Roscoe, IL, Dana Sue Carson of Woodruff, WI, Ione Witherbee of Lake Andes, SD, Lisa Torres of Culpepper, VI, Rose Collins of Bloomington, IL, and Christine Le’Jeune of Ferris, IL; six brothers and seven sisters; 20 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Music was provided by Judy Ryman, organist. Musical selections included “Blest Be The Tie That Binds”, “God Be With You”, and “Sweet By And By”. Casketbearers were Chester Vance, Eldon Wetzel, Jack Wetzel, Joe, Wetzel, Robert Purdy, and Gary Steiner. The family suggests memorials to the Doris Vance Memorial Fund.
