Brittingham 1913-2005 Funeral services for Louise E. Brittingham, 91, Pomona, were Friday, July 1, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at Dengel and Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Interment was in Holmes Cemetery at Prescott at 2:00 p.m. Mrs. Brittingham died Monday, June 27, at Richmond Care Center, Richmond. Louise E. Brittingham was born September 23, 1913, at Muncie, KS, the daughter of Alfred Newton and Gertude Olive (Dubus) Horstman. She grew up in Wyandotte County until moving to Fort Scott where she lived for many years before moving to the Ottawa area in 1951 and to Pomona in 1970. She graduated from Welborn High School with the Class of 1931. In 1934, Louise graduated from Fort Scott Community College with a teacher’s certificate. Louise worked at H.D. Lee in Ottawa from 1966 until retirement in 1976. She also worked as a cook at the Franklin County Sale Barn and the L&L Restaurant, both of Ottawa. She was a member of Tauy Baptist Church, Lady Oriental Shrine of North America Kesiah Court #49 and was High Priestess 1972 to 1973. She was past Nobel Grand of the Rebekah Lodge of Pomona, member of Pomona Flower Club, Boyd Ladies Aid in Franklin County, and 76’ers Craft Club. Louise and Ivan T. Brittingham, Sr. were married at Lamar, MO, on September 1, 1935. He preceded her in death on April 19, 1989. Mrs. Brittingham was also preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Gertude Horstman; her sisters, Esther Peck, Jean Brown, Ethel Stumpff, and Mary Horstman; her brother, Alfred Horstman, Jr.; her granddaughter, Melissa Brittingham; and her great-grandson, Michael Higginbotham, Jr. Louise is survived by her sons, Kenneth Brushwood of Kansas City, MO, Willard “Bill” Brittingham of Kansas City, MO, Ivan Troy Brittingham, Jr. of Pomona, and Max Brittingham of Pomona; her daughters, Ivana Higginbotham of Mapleton, Rebecca Roush of Greeley, Carolyn Schuster of Greeley, Marolyn Foster of Pomona, and Sharon Falk of Stafford; her brother, Lee “Bud” Horstman of Shawnee; 19 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.
