Mr. Houk died Tuesday, August 2, at Via Christie-St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. John Houk was born August 19, 1926, at Moran, the son of Clarence A. and Mary (Reade) Houk. He graduated from Moran High School with the Class of 1944. He served his country with the United States Army 11th Airborne. John was an ironworker. He was a member of American Legion Air Capital Post #401, Marmaton Lodge #245, and VFW Post #6324 at La Harpe. John and Regina Albert were married September 11, 1948, at Iola. She preceded him in death. Mr. Houk was also preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Mary Houk; and his brother, Clarence A. Houk, Jr. John is survived by his son, Kenny Houk and his wife, Vicki, of Wichita; and his brothers, Joseph Houk of Topeka and Marion Houk of Linn Valley. Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Moran, is in charge of arrangements.” “Peggy Jo Bien 1949-2005 Funeral services for Peggy Jo Bien, 56, Ottawa, are Saturday, August 6, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Ottawa. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Mrs. Bien died Monday, August 1, at her home. Peggy Jo Bien was born July 6, 1949, at Missoula, MT, the daughter of Thomas Gerald and Shirley Rose (Wilken) Milburn. She lived most of her life in Ottawa and Franklin County, moving there as a child from Polo, MO. Peggy graduated from Ottawa High School with the Class of 1967. For the past 28 years to the present, she was employed by Honeywell (formerly known as Bendix-King, Allied Signal, and King Radio), in Johnson County, KS, as a Manufacturing Engineer Coordinator. In the 1960’s and 1970’s, she worked at H.D. Lee in Ottawa for 10 years. Peggy attended Ottawa Bible Church. She was a charter member of Ottawa 600 Club, member and board member of Ottawa Women’s Bowling Association, member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in Ottawa, past member of Ottawa High School Booster Club, and member of Eugene Field Parent Teacher’s Association. Peggy and Rick Bien were married September 9, 1967, at Ottawa. They were later divorced. Mrs. Bien was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Shirley Milburn; her sister, Judith Ann Milburn; and one infant sister. Peggy is survived by her daughter, Michelle Renea (Bien) Stottlemire of Rantoul; her brothers, Dale E. Milburn of Burlington and James David Milburn of Shawnee; and her granddaughter, Emma Rose Stottlemire of Rantoul. The family will meet with friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, August 5. Interment was in the Amish Cemetery. Mrs. Keim died at the rural Garnett home of Floyd and Lorene Keim. Esther Keim was born August 30, 1921, at Plain City, OH, the daughter of David and Nancy (Mast) Farmwald. She had lived near Yoder for the last 20 years. Esther was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. Esther and Menno L. Keim were married on March 3, 1941, at Haven, KS. He preceded her in death on September 16, 1978. Mrs. Keim is survived by her children, Dolores and Toby Yoder, of Paris, TX, Larry and Verna Keim of Garnett, Lloyd and Lorene Keim of Garnett, Ivan and Dorothy Keim of Garnett, Lee Keim of Garnett, Nancy and Daniel Schrock of Stark City, MO, Martha and Willie Schrock of Hamilton, MT, and David Earl and Elsie Keim of Hutchinson; her sister, Lizzie Ann Troyer of Mountain Grove, MO; her brother, Harvey Farmwald of Sullivan, IL; her sisters-in-law, Clara Keim and Polly Keim, both of Haven; 37 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 3: “Rev. Cecil C. Pickert, O. Carm. 1932-2005 Mass of Christian Burial for Rev. Cecil C. Pickert, O. Carm., 73, was Wednesday, August 3, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Boniface Church in Scipio with The Very Rev. John F. Welch, O. Carm., Prior Provincial, as principal celebrant. Interment was in St. Boniface Cemetery. Rev. Pickert died Thursday, July 28, in Washington, D.C., where he was living in retirement. Rev. Cecil C. Pickert was born June 29, 1932, in the Richmond/Scipio area, the son of Ernest and Mary (Lickteig) Pickert. After graduation from East Scipio School, he enrolled at Mt. Carmel Preparatory Seminary in Niagara Falls, Ontario, where he began studies for the priesthood with the Carmelite Order. Following his high school studies at Niagara, he spent the next year as a Carmelite Novitiate in New Baltimore, PA. He professed his simple vows at the end of that year on September 1, 1951. From there he returned to Mt. Carmel College in Niagara Falls, where he continued study in philosophy and other subjects. He professed his solemn vows there years later on September 14, 19554. After theology studies at Whitefriars Hall in Washington, D.C., Rev. Pickert was ordained to the priesthood on May 31, 1958, in Kansas City, KS. In addition to his theology studies, he also received a BA degree in Philosophy from St. Bonaventure University in Olean, NY, and a MA degree in Biology from Notre Dame University in South Bend, IN. He was also a Councilor and Spiritual Director, receiving that training from the Cardinal Meyer Institute in Milwaukee, WI, Aquinas Institute in Dubuque, IA, and the Jesuit School of Theology in Chicago, IL. Serving as teacher, the Rev. Pickert taught at Mt. Carmel High School in Los Angeles, CA, and formation work at Mt. Carmel in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Mt. Carmel in San Diego, CA, and Carmel Hall in Milwaukee, WI. His parish assignments included St. Anastasia in Teaneck, NJ, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Darien, IL, St. Joseph in Leavenworth, and Mt. Carmel in Louisville, KY. Rev. Pickert was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Mary Pickert; and his sisters, Phyllis and Virginia. He is survived by his brother, Carl Pickert of Overland Park; his sister, Marilyn M. Porter and her husband, James, of Tampa, FL; his nieces, Carolyn Maier, Linda Hopfinger, Lisa Loewen, Denise Campbell, Diane Williams, and Debbie Harris; his nephews, David Pickert, Gary Pickert, and Steven Pickert; and 16 grand-nieces and nephews.
