Kinney 1940-2005 Joyce M. Kinney, 65, of Davenport, FL, died Friday, July 29, 2005, at her residence under the care of Good Shepherd Hospice. Joyce was born March 20, 1949, at Garnett, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Dorothy (Young) Harper. She graduated from Garnett High School with the Class of 1958. She retired from Stanion Wholesale Electric in Topeka and moved to Central Florida in 2000. She was a member of the Lake Perry Country Club in Perry, KS, Cedar Crest Country Club in Topeka, Swiss Fairways Golf Club in Groveland, FL, and the Kansas Women’s Bowling Association. Mrs. Kinney is survived by her husband of 46 years, Donald Kinney; her sons, Darren Kinney of Firth, NE, and Robert Kinney of Kansas City, MO; her grandchildren, Bailey, Peyton, and Ande, all of Firth, NE; her brothers, Glen Harper of Kansas City, MO, and Charles Harper of Emporia; her sisters, Linda Meiries of Louisburg, Carol Katzer of Chanute, and Kathy Stockton of Warsaw, MO; her aunt, Freedia Fisher Parker of Garnett; and her uncles, Bill Young and his wife, Glendina, of Westphalia, Bob Young of Garnett, and Gene Young and his wife, Betty, also of Garnett. Becker Family Funeral Home, Clermont, FL, was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 3: “Maxine Giffin 1918-2005 Funeral services for Maxine ‘Bobby’ Giffin, 86, of Garnett, were Thursday, August 11, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel with Rev. Judy Brown officiating. Interment was in Blue Mound Cemetery, Blue Mound, KS. Mrs. Giffin died Sunday, August 7, at Golden Heights Living Center, Garnett. Maxine Giffin was born August 15, 1918, in the Wall Street Community in Linn County, the daughter of William Morton and Rosalie (Burk) Jackson. She grew up in the Wall Street area and lived in Linn County until moving to Garnett in 1978. She enjoyed quilting and embroidery, and will be remembered for her good cooking. Maxine was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Garnett. Maxine and Lawrence L. ‘Tub’ Giffin were married August 18, 1937, at Paola. He preceded her in death on August 23, 2002. Mrs. Giffin was also preceded in death by her son, Carl Dean Giffin on January 27, 2005; her parents, William and Rosalie Jackson; and 13 brothers and sisters. Maxine is survived by her sons, Johnnie Giffin and his wife, Carole, of Olathe, and Roger Giffin and his wife, Karen, of Independence, MO; her daughter, Sandy Canada and her husband, Ed, of Parker; her daughter-in-law, Laura Giffin of Garnett; her sister, Margie Dugger of Oregon; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Music was provided by Pam McSwane, organist, and Clarice McLaughlin and Roger Mace, soloists. Musical selections included “On The Wings Of A Snow White Dove” and “Search For Jesus”. Casketbearers were Lois Joliff, Scott Giffin, Mike Giffin, Lori Northern, Eric Canada, and David Giffin. The family suggests memorials to Maxine be made to Golden Heights Living Center. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.” Page 10, Column 1: “Catherine D. Paulie 1914-2005 Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, August 11, 2005 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Thomas Scaletty as officiant for Catherine D. Paulie. Burial was in St. Patrick Cemetery. A Vigil Service was held at the church Wednesday, followed by the Rosary. She died August 8, 2005, at Villa St. Francis in Olathe. She was born September 9, 1914 at Scipio, the daughter of Peter and Gesena (Roecker) Wolken. She was united in marriage to John A. Paulie on January 11, 1937 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chanute and they lived in St. Paul for many years. Her husband preceded her in death, as well as two sons, Albert Paulie in 1992, and Larry Paulie in 1994; three brothers; and four sisters. Catherine completed her GED in 1970 and worked as a cook at Royster Junior High School, retiring in 1983. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She is survived by four daughters; Mary Catherine Casida of Prairie Village, Sister Catherine Therese Paulie of Garden City, a son, Mike Paulie of Chanute; eight grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. Memorial in her name may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church and may be left at the funeral home. The family would like to especially thank the Villa St. Francis and Catholic Community Hospice for their loving care.
