Interment was in Highland Cemetery. Mr. Wren died Friday, August 5, at Bryan LGH Medical Center West, Lincoln, NE. Frank Wren was born December 5, 1913, at Kincaid, the son of Louis Elmer and Sadie Pearl (Scott) Wren. He grew up on the family farm north of Kincaid. He attended Mt. Zion Rural School and Kincaid High School. Frank and Martha D. Downing were married July 12, 1942, at Paradise, CA. They made their home in Paradise for a short time before moving to Kincaid where they farmed until 1992. They retired and moved to their home east of Iola. He was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church at Iola. Mr. Wren was preceded in death by his grandson, Cayden Wren; his brother, Robert Wren; his sisters, Ina Springer and Clema Sperling; and two infant sisters. Frank is survived by his wife, Martha, of Lincoln, NE; his sons, Harold Wren and his wife, Sherita, of El Dorado, and James Wren and his wife, Linda, of Lincoln, NE; his daughter, Betty Chapman and her husband, Dee, of Shelton, NE; his sister, Arleta Fuller of Ringgold, GA; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials in Frank’s name to the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Chapel was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 2: “John Frank McHone, Sr. 1917-2005 Memorial services with military honors for John Frank McHone, Sr., Virginia Beach, VA, were Friday, August 12, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. at Diamond Springs Christian Church with Rev. Carolyn Schwarz officiating. Mr. McHone died Saturday, August 6, at his residence. John Frank McHone was born August 17, 1917, at Kooskia, ID, the son of James B. and Ora Ruark McHone. He grew up in the Findlay neighborhood. He was a retired Master Chief Petty Officer from the United States Navy after 30 years, and from Borden Chemical Company in Maintenance. He was a crew member aboard the Submarine USS Spearfish when they evacuated nurses from Corrigidor in World War II. He was a former Boy Scout leader for a number of years and also enjoyed gardening and golfing. John and Katherine Burcham were married March 14, 1943, in the Centerville church. John is survived by his wife of 63 years, Katherine B. McHone; his daughters, Katy Green and her husband, George, of Coronado, CA, and Patricia Bubucis and her husband, Ivars, of Uncasville, CT; his sons, Dr. John Frank McHone, Jr. of Flagstaff, AZ, and Michael B. McHone and his wife, Tracy, of Vienna, VA; his grandchildren, Ryan Bubucis and his wife, Danielle, of Cary, NC, Meghan, Wendy, and Bonnie McHone of Vienna, VA, and Kirstin Green of Ghana, West Africa; his sister, Lena Spencer of Vancover, WA; and his step-brother, Eldon Nation of Fort Morgan, Co. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home and Crematory, Virginia Beach, VA, was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 3: “Orval Dwight Nokes 1929-2005 Memorial services for Orval Dwight Nokes, 75, of Tonganoxie, were Saturday, August 13, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at Tongonoxie United Methodist Church. Interment was in Hubble Hill Cemetery. Mr. Nokes died Thursday, August 11, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence. Orval Dwight Nokes was born October 14, 1929, at Welda, the son of Orville and Bertha (Johnson) Nokes Ellington. He graduated from Welda High School. He retired after working as an engineer for City Service Gas Company for 37 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Tonganoxie. He had lived in the Tonganoxie community since 1952. Orval enjoyed his family, and friends, and was devoted to his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Orval and Mahlene Cook were married June 25, 1964, at Kansas City, KS. Mr. Nokes was preceded in death by his son, Ronnie Nokes; father, Orville Nokes; and his brother, Duane Nokes. Orval is survived by his wife, Mahlene, of the home; his mother, Bertha Ellington of Richmond; his daughters, Theresa Hiestand of Topeka, and Tammy Bennett of Tonganoxie; his son, Robert Crook of Tonganoxie; his sisters, Lorna Brecheisen of Las Vegas, NV, Ann Osborn of Topeka, and Janette Mullins of Olathe; his brother, Larry Nokes, of Pittsburg; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorial contributions in Orval’s name to Palliative Care at Lawrence Memorial Hospital or Tonganoxie United Methodist Church.
