Allen 1915-2005 Funeral services for Minnie E. Allen, 89, Ottawa, were Wednesday, August 24, 2005, at Dengel and Son Mortuary with Rev. Jim Stigall officiating. Interment was in Lane Cemetery, Lane, KS. Mrs. Allen died Saturday, August 20, at Village West Assisted Living, Ottawa. Minnie E. Allen was born October 6, 1915, at Farlinville, KS, the daughter of Wyatt W. and Sarah F. (Ross) Johnson. She grew up in the Lane area and then lived the rest of her life in Ottawa. She graduated from Lane High School with the Class of 1934. Minnie was a lifelong homemaker. She was a member of Lane United Methodist Church, and also attended First Methodist Church in Ottawa. Minnie and Marshall W. Allen were married July 22, 1937. He preceded her in death on July 20, 1998. Mrs. Allen was also preceded in death by her parents, Wyatt W. and Sarah F. Johnson; and her brothers, Richard Johnson, L.B. Johnson, Everett L. Johnson, Hugh Ross, David Johnson, Arthur Johnson, and Walter Johnson. Minnie is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard L. and Mary Allen of Vassar; her son, Robert W. Allen of Malvern, IA; her daughter and son-in-law, Marcia Jo and Mike Hammond of Winfield; her grandchildren, Todd Allen, Jeff Allen, Jason Allen, and Somer Lee Patterson; and her great-grandchildren, Olivia Allen, Sophia Allen, Scout Allen, Parker Allen, Wyatt Allen, and Reagan Allen. The family suggests memorials to Ottawa First United Methodist Church or Lane United Methodist Church. Dengel and Son Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 2: “Vera Blanche Wright 1916-2005 Funeral services for Vera Blanche Wright, 88, Kansas City, KS, were Thursday, August 18, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Moran, with Rev. Larry Grissom officiating. Interment was in Moran Cemetery. Mrs. Wright died August 14, at Life Care Center of Kansas City in Kansas City, KS. Vera Blanche Wright was born November 27, 1916, at Parsons, the daughter of Floyd and Minnie (Redden) Shaw. She grew up in the Geneva area where she graduated from high school. Following her marriage to Daniel ‘Ted’ Wright on February 25, 1936, at Iola, they moved to Kansas City from the Porterville area near Savonsburg. In the early 1970’s, they moved to Iola and operated Wright’s Motel on Highway 54 until returning to Kansas City in the mid-1970’s. Vera entered the Life Care Center of Kansas City on September 10, 1966. She was a member of the Brenner Heights Baptist Church in Kansas City, KS. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, and crocheting. Mrs. Wright was preceded in death by her husband, Ted, on May 20, 1988; her parents, Floyd and Minnie Shaw; her sisters, Mabel Byfield, Una Galbreath, and Betty Adams; and her brother, Harry Shaw. Vera is survived by her daughter, Velma Scarborough of Kansas City, KS, and Virginia Creek and her husband, Ken, of Jameson, MO; her sister, Bonnie Huskey of LeRoy; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Musical selections included “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Just A Closer Walk With Thee”. Casketbearers were Brad Scarborough, Ron Wells, Brian Wells, David Ussery, Aaron Ussery, Brian Smith, Adam Smith, and Joshua Beard. Feuerborn Family Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 3: “Albert Ray Myers 1936-2005 Funeral services for Albert Ray Myers, 68, Manhattan were Friday, August 19, 2005, at First Christian Church in Manhattan with Rev. Neil Engle officiating. Interment was in Sunrise Cemetery, Manhattan. Mr. Myers died Tuesday, August 16, at his home after an extended illness. Albert Ray ‘Big Al’ Myers was born August 27, 1936, at Colony, the son of Stanley Lawrence and Rena Dion (Brown) Myers. He grew up in Colony and attended school there. He later received an AA degree from Wichita State University in Police Science and had also attended many classes at Kansas State University. Al and Clara M. Meliza were married November 5, 1955, at Colony. She survives of the home. Mr. Myers was a veteran of the United States Navy and was stationed at Long Beach and Modesto, CA. After his military discharge, he lived in Modesto, CA, Logan, UT, and Garnett before moving to Manhattan in 1963. He spent over 23 years with the Riley County Police Department and retired as a Sergeant in 1983. Al was a member of the First Christian Church in Manhattan, and had served as secretary and treasurer of the Brotherhood of United Commercial Travelers. He was active with the local Boy Scout program and for many years was best known for his work with the Toys-For-Tots Program through the police department. In addition to his wife, Al is survived by his son, Douglas Ray Myers and his wife, Verleta, of Manhattan; his daughters, Anna Marie Buckland and her husband, Phillip, of Gladstone, MO, Penny Kay Myers of Merriam, and Christy Lynn Johnston and her husband, Gabe, of North Kansas City, MO; his brothers, Eddie Myers of Sapulpa, OK, Jerry Myers of Kansas City, MO, Randy Myers of Kansas City, KS, and Alan Myers of Arlington, TX; his sister, Ruth Ann Womelsdorf, of Welda; his grandchildren, Joshua and Athena Myers, Benjamin and Bethany Buckland, and Jachary Johnson; his great-grandchildren, Jamie and Jordon; and his brother-in-law and his wife, Bob and Franque Meliza of Garnett. Memorials contributions may be made to Homecare and Hospice Foundation and left in care of the funeral home.
