Schmoe 1902-2005 Funeral services for Marion A. Schmoe, 102, of Richmond, were Wednesday, August 31, 2005, at Dengel and Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Interment was in Highland Cemetery in Ottawa. Mr. Schmoe died Friday, August 26, at Richmond Care Center. Marion A. Schmoe was born October, 23, 1902, at Seymour, IN, the son of Henry and Mollie Anna (Baldwin) Schmoe. He moved with his family in 1907 from Indiana to DeSoto, to Prairie Center, KS, and then to Ottawa in 1913. He lived in Rantoul from 1927 until moving to Richmond in 1965. Marion was a farmer, then he worked at Hercules Powder Plant in the 1940’s. He then returned to farming and worked construction and oil fields. He worked at Skyhook in Ottawa from 1960 until his retirement in 1985. Marion was a member of the school board of Silver Valley Grade School and was a former member of Union Chapel Church in Franklin County. Marion and Rozella Hope McCann were married October 9, 1924, at Ottawa. She preceded him in death on February 18, 1951. He was united in marriage with Velma J. (Wallace) Everson at Lyndon. She preceded him in death on December 4, 1995. Mr. Schmoe was also preceded in death by his son, Homer Schmoe; his daughter, Donnie Nichols; his parents, Henry and Mollie Anna Schmoe; four brothers; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; and one great-great-granddaughter. Marion is survived by his sons, Floyd Schmoe, George Schmoe, and Dale Schmoe, all of Ottawa; and Merlin Schmoe of Baldwin City; his daughters, Gladys Butter, Hazel Guyett, Virgie Sink, and Janette Millbern, all of Ottawa, Myrtle Bones of Gardner, Mollie Lee of Richmond, Jean Jones of Princeton, Dorothy Gilpin of Kansas City, MO, and Audra Detwiler of Vassar; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to Richmond Care Center of Hospice Care of Kansas. Dengel and Son Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.” “Peggy Darlene Weekley 1936-2005 Funeral services for Peggy Darlene Weekley, 68, Auburn, were Saturday, August 27, 2005, at Dengel and Son Mortuary in Ottawa. Interment was in Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, KS. Mrs. Weekley died Wednesday, August 24, at St. Francis Health Care in Topeka. Peggy Darlene Weekley was born December 17, 1936, at Baldwin City, the daughter of Carl and Charlene (Ledom) Yohe. She attended Ottawa High School. She had lived in Auburn since 1982, moving there from Topeka, where she had lived since 1972. Prior to moving to Topeka, she lived in Ottawa. Peggy was a homemaker. She also worked for Ottawa Head Start Program in the late 1960’s and was District Manager for House of Lloyd Toy Company in Topeka in the early 1970’s. She was a member of Town and Country Church of Christ in Ottawa. Peggy and Don Weekley were married March 14, 1969. He survives of their home. Mrs. Weekley was preceded in death by her daughter, Connie Colleen Shadwick; her parents, Carl and Charlene Yohe; and her sisters, Beverly Bond and Delma Mason. Peggy is also survived by her daughters and their husbands, Debra and Michael Kille of Wichita Falls, TX, and Dianne and Tom Plemons of Topeka; her sons and their wives, Darrell and Karen Weekley of Topeka, and Phillip and Kateri Criqui of St. Mary’s; her stepdaughter, Donna Jones of Wawaka, IN; her stepdaughters and their husbands, Brenda and Wes Staton and Ramona and Andy Long, all of Ligonier, IN, and Teresa and Mark Johnston of Topeka; her sister and husband, Maxine and Leonard Bond of Ottawa; her sister, Karen Hadsell of Ottawa; 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorial to the American Diabetes Association. Dengel and Son Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 2: “Mary Strobel Rockers 1933-2005 Mass of the Resurrection for Mary Strobel Rockers, 93, of Topeka, was Thursday, August 25, 2005, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Topeka. Her son, Rev. Al Rockers was the principle concelebrant. Archbishop Joseph Naumann presided. Interment was in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Mrs. Rockers died Monday, August 22, at Topeka Presbyterian Manor. Mary Strobel Rockers was born in the Scipio Community on September 8, 1911, the fourth of 12 children born to John and Anna (Steinbacher) Strobel. She was baptized at St. Boniface Church in Scipio. She married Jacob Rockers on June 27, 1933, at St. Boniface Church. Mary was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 50 plus year member of the Daughters of Isabella Little Flower Circle #503, the Hayden Mothers Club, Sacred Heart Altar Society, Third Order of Carmelites, St. Monica Guild at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Topeka Chapter of Mothers of Priest, and IBEW #2256 Auxiliary. Mrs. Rockers was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Jake; one grandson, Jamie Jewell; her parents, John and Anna Strobel; seven brothers and sisters; and her son-in-law, Bill Maggard. Mary is survived by her daughters, Lillian Maggard of Olathe, and Carolee ‘Kip’ Jewell and her husband, John, of Overland Park; her sons, Rev Al Rockers of Basehor, Floyd Rockers and his wife, Louise, of Topeka, and Glenn Rockers and his wife, Barbara, of Hayes; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Richard Strobel of Garnett; and her sisters, Bernice Rockers of Ottawa, Hilda Patton of Palo Alto, CA, and Ethel Meyers of Overland Park. Bergerhaus 1917-2005 Funeral services for Coletta F. Bergerhaus, 87, of Overland Park, was Thursday, September 1, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Greeley with Father Brian Klingele officiating. Interment was in St. John’s Cemetery. Ms. Bergerhaus died August 21 at the Forum of Overland Park. Coletta F. Bergerhaus was born October 11, 1917, the daughter of Leo and Leonore (Wittry) Bergerhaus, and the sister of Ellen Regina Bergerhaus and Maurice Wittry Bergerhaus. She was raised by her maternal grandparents until 1923, when her grandmother passed away. She attended school in Greeley and at Ursuline Academy at Paola, graduating in 1934. Coletta moved to Kansas City, MO, in 1934, working as an Executive Secretary at General Motors until retirement. Miss Bergerhaus was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Leonora Bergerhaus in 1920; her brother, Maurice Wittry Bergerhaus on December 29, 1970; her sister, Ellen Regina Bergerhaus on July 26, 2004; her nephew, Dennis Russell Bergerhaus on April 17, 2002, and her great-nephew, Wade Colton Dishong on July 23, 2003. Coletta is survived by her niece, Carol Jeanne (Bergerhaus) and John William Dishong; her cousins, Gladys Nichols and Helen McKnight, both of Topeka, Betty and Kirk Dutton of Auburn, Richard and Jo Wittry and Gus and Ruth Wittry, all of Greeley, Charles and Louise Burlingham of Ottawa, and June Veenboer and Jean Bergerhaus of Kansas City, MO; her great-nieces, Bridge Jeanne (Dishong) Cumley and Tammy Lee Dishong of Bennett, CO, and Cany Mhyre of Twin Falls, ID; her great-nephew, Baron Benjamin Delahoyd of Green River, WY; five great-great-nephews and eight great-great-nieces.
