Mrs. Lyons died Thursday, September 15, at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa. Laverne Frances Lyons was born November 13, 1917, at Princeton, the daughter of Claude Clarence and Mary Myrtle (Henderson) Spencer. She was a lifelong Franklin County resident and graduated from Princeton High School with the Class of 1935. She worked in the Princeton schools and the kitchen at Central Heights School for a total of 28 years, retiring in 1984. Laverne was a member of Princeton Christian Church. Laverne and Albert Eugene ‘Gene’ Lyons were married January 29, 1944, at Ottawa. He preceded her in death on December 25, 1991. Mrs. Lyons was also preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Claude Spencer; and her brother; James Clifford Spencer. Laverne is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Dale Pearson of Ottawa; her grandson and wife, Tim and Shalene Pearson of Ottawa; her granddaughter and husband, Shelly and Kevin Suwalski of Ottawa; her great-grandchildren, Bailey Pearson of Ottawa, and Kylie and Hunter Suwalski, both of Ottawa; and several nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorial contributions to B. Martin Peck Animal Shelter. Dengel and Son Mortuary, Ottawa, was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 2: “Edna Fern Wells 1914-2004 Funeral services for Edna Fern Wells, 91, Moran, were Friday, September 16, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Moran with Pastor Michael Miller officiating. Interment was in Elsmore Cemetery, Elsmore, KS. Mrs. Wells died Tuesday, September 13 at her home in Moran. Edna Fern Wells was born June 5, 1914, in Missouri, the daughter of Martin Creviston and Martha Gregg. She attended school in Iola. Edna lived in LaHarpe, El Monte, CA, Brazilton, Elsmore, and Moran. She worked as a seamstress at H.L. Miller in Iola and at a garment factory in California before moving back to Kansas, where she had worked as a nurse’s aide in the nursing home at Girard. Edna and Leo Henry Wells were married March 20, 1931, at Iola. He preceded her in death in 1984. Mrs. Wells was also preceded in death by her son, Leo Lorraine Wells; her daughters, Vickie Lou LeMay and Josephine Fern Ledbetter; two sisters; three brothers; and one great-granddaughter. Edna is survived by her daughter, Deloris Hummel of Savonburg, 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Feuerborn Family Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 3: “Irene Loper 1916-2005 Funeral services for Irene Loper, 89, Richmond, are pending and will be announced at a later date by Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel.
