Fink 1927-2005 Memorial services for Jack J. Fink, 77, Garnett, were Thursday, January 27, 2005, at Garnett Presbyterian Church with Pastor George R. Pasley and Rev. Bill O’Connell officiating. Mr. Fink died Saturday, January 22, at his home. Jack J. Fink was born August 19, 1927, at Lucerne, KS, the son of Clinton C. and Dora A. (Treu) Fink. He graduated from Quinter (Kansas) High School with the Class of 1945, and from the University of Kansas in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. In 1945, Jack graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and served as an Able Body Seaman for three years, participating in troop transportation during the latter part of World War II. In 1950, during the Korean War, Jack was drafted into the United States Army. He was a radio operator, earning his Army Occupation Medal (Germany). He was honorably discharged November 18, 1952, as a Tech. Sgt. Due to his employment, it was necessary for Jack to move to various states, including Dallas, TX, San Francisco, CA, Bridgewater, NJ, Fairfield, CT, and Denver, CO. In 1991, he moved to Garnett. Jack was a member of Garnett Presbyterian Church, Garnett Rotary, Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #6397 of Garnett, and American Legion Full Thompson Post #48 of Garnett. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge of Quinter and Ahmes Shrine of San Francisco, CA. He organized and conducted computer classes in Garnett, was political reporter for the “Anderson County Review”, served as treasurer for the Anderson County Republican Party, and was a precinct Committeeman. Jack and Kathryn Cook were married September 1, 1954, at Garnett. Mr. Fink was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton C. and Dora A. Fink. Jack is survived by his wife, Kathryn, of their home; his son, Christopher C. Fink of Garnett; his daughter, Rebecca O’Connell of El Dorado; his sister, JoAn Wilson of Lawrence; his sister-in-law, Margaret Jo Cummings of Lawrence; his grandsons, Kevin Fink of Garnett, and Benjamin O’Connell and Matthew O’Connell, both of El Dorado; his granddaughters, Bei Lei Wang and Rachel Fink, both of Garnett; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family suggests memorials to Hospice Care of Kansas or Garnett Presbyterian Church. Dengel and Son Mortuary, Ottawa, was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 2: “Lena Cramer 1910-2005 Funeral services for Lena Cramer, 94, Garnett, were Wednesday, January 26, 2005, at 1:30 p.m. at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel with Rev. James Skedel officiating. Interment was in Garnett Cemetery. Mrs. Cramer died Monday, January 24, at Anderson County Hospital. Lena Cramer was born September 15, 1910, at Kearney, MO, the daughter of Eugene and Ola (Andrews) Stockton. She worked with her husband at W.H. Cramer and Son Manufacturing. After retiring, they spent their winters in Florida. She and her husband were avid walkers and she continued walking until she was well into her 80’s. She was also an avid reader. Lena was a member of the First Baptist Church of Garnett. Lena and Stanley Cramer were married January 3, 1926, at Kansas City, MO. He preceded her in death on December 24, 1985. Mrs. Cramer was also preceded in death by her son, Bill Cramer in 2004; her parents, Eugene and Ola Stockton; and her brothers, Hugh Stockton and Donald Stockton. Lena is survived by her son, Robert E. Cramer and his wife, Glenna, of Garnett; her daughter, Betty Dean and her husband, Herbert “Dob”, of Odessa, TX; her brother, Sam Stockton of Garnett; her sister, Hilda Thompson of Iowa Park, TX; 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Music was provided by Laura Parks, organist, and Richard Parks, vocalist. Musical selections included “Peace In The Valley” and “In The Garden”. Casketbearers were Dale Campbell, Darren Cramer, Jerry Wichert, and Don Stockton. The family greeted friends on Tuesday, January 25, 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Garnett Public Library. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 3: “Jean Betts 1920-2005 Funeral services for Jean Betts, 84, Garnett, were Wednesday, January 26, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel with Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Interment was at 2:00 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery, Baldwin City. Mrs. Betts died Saturday, January 22, at Anderson County Hospital Long Term Care. Jean Betts was born June 8, 1920, at Pomona, the daughter of Rev. E.S. Hughes and Mary (Shike) Hughes. She lived in several Kansas towns as the family moved with her father’s work as a Methodist minister. She graduated from Baker University in 1944 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. After her children entered high school, Jean taught school at the Judy School in rural Garnett. She would later work as a substitute teacher for USD #365 and Holy Angels School. Jean worked as a clerk at Dee’s Fashions, and lastly at the Garnett Public Library. Jean was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and sang in the church choir. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her travels with her husband. Jean and Cleo W. Betts were married May 20, 1943, at Herington. This union was blessed with two children. He preceded her in death on April 24, 2001. Jean is survived by her son, William E. Betts of Garnett; her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Richard Voeltz of Lincoln, NE; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Music was provided by Laura Parks, organist, and Scott Schulte, soloist. Musical selections included “Morning Prayer”, “An Evening Prayer”, and “Now The Day Is Over”. Honorary casketbearers were Donnie and Dave Axtell, Leonard Benjamin, Jane Feuerborn, Bob and Franque Meliza, Peggy Quirin, Betty Tilton, and Howard Williams. Jean was a wonderful wife and mother who was very devoted to her husband and children. She will be deeply missed. The family suggests memorial contributions to Anderson County Hospital Long Term Care or the Garnett Public Library.
