Gary Benjamin officiating. Mrs. Myatt died Sunday, October 30, at Golden Heights Living Center. Thelma Shannon Myatt was born August 7, 1906, at Stilwell, OK, the daughter of Maurice and Mary Elizabeth Shannon. She was raised in Stilwell. On September 30, 1927, Thelma was united in marriage to Ralph C. Myatt. This union was blessed with two daughters. Thelma worked as a legal secretary for three different judges at the Anderson County Courthouse. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church since moving to Garnett in 1931. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and enjoyed volunteering for local groups. Thelma was an avid bridge player and enjoyed playing with her friends. Mrs. Myatt was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; her daughter, Carol Lopez; and her parents, Maurice and Mary Elizabeth Shannon. Thelma is survived by her daughter, Mary Jane and her husband, Charles Sippy of Georgetown, TX; her grandchildren, Steven Lopez of Campbell, CA, Christi Lopez Herring of Lenexa, Bradford Sippy of Fairbanks, AK, Annette Sippy Bricker of Overland Park, and Brian Sippy of Missoula, MT; 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Cooper 1909-2005 Funeral services for Helen V. Cooper, 96, Garnett, were Monday, October 31, 2005, at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel with Rev. James Skedel officiating. Interment was in Mont Ida Cemetery, Mont Ida, KS. Mrs. Cooper died Saturday, October 29, at Anderson County Hospital Long Term Care Facility. Helen V. Cooper was born August 6, 1909, at Freeport, KS, the daughter of Alfred and Druzilla (Hudson) Kirk. She was raised in the Freeport area, where she taught school for several years before her marriage to William Logan Cooper on August 31, 1934, at Wichita. The couple lived in Wichita for a while before moving to Birmingham, AL, where they spent most of their life before moving to Garnett in 1992. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Cooper was preceded in death by her husband, William Logan Cooper on August 22, 2000; her sisters, Florence Kirk, Althea Newland, and Eleanor Bennett; and her brother, Howard Kirk. Helen is survived by her daughter, Virginia Sue Cooper of Birmingham, AL; her sister-in-law, Virginia Kirk of Admire; her cousin, Ann Calahan of Garnett; her nieces, Darlene Hartman and Carol Kirk; and her nephews, Joe and Phillip Kirk. Casketbearers were Dean Barr, David Hartman, Joe Kirk, Phil Kirk, and Ronnie Smith. The family suggests memorial contributions to Guest Home Estates of Garnett. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 2: “Edna Mae (Beachy) Miller 1926-2005 Edna Mae (Beachy) Miller, daughter of Joel P. and Malinda (Yoder) Beachy, was born June 23, 1926, at Thomas, OK. She died at her home on October 29, 2005, at the age of 79 years, four months, and six days. Funeral services for Mrs. Miller were held Tuesday, November 1, at the Nelson Yoder residence, rural Garnett, with Larry Keim, Daniel Schrock, and Edward T. Yoder officiating. Interment was in the Amish Cemetery, Garnett. She was baptized in her youth and remained a faithful member of the Old Order Amish Church until her death. She was married to Amos J. Miller on August 23, 1945, and lived in matrimony 27 years. She was a widow for 32 years. Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her husband, Amos J. Miller; her parents, Joel and Malinda Beachy; three sons, Owen who died in 1980 at the age of 24, and two infant sons; and her brother, Melvin Beachy. Edna is survived by two sons and four daughters, Wilmer and wife, Fern, of Partridge, KS, Amos Jr. and wife, Donna, of Garnett, Ruth Ann Yoder and husband, Harley, of Garnett, Nancy Yoder and husband Perry, of Montezuma, GA, Edna Marie Troyer and husband LaVern, Carrier Mills, IL, and Erma Yoder and husband, Nelson, of Garnett; 25 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, David Beachy, Leon, IA; and two sisters, Elizan Yoder of Mayfield, KY, and Susie Thomas of Goshen, IN. Casketbearers were Eli Yoder, Delmar Yoder, Clayton Yoder, Joe Miller, Leslie Keim, and Raymond Yoder. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.” “Orma Katherine MacArthur 1913-2005 Graveside services and interment for Orma Katherine MacArthur, 92, Richmond, were Wednesday, November 2, 2005, at Cabool Cemetery, Cabool, MO, with Gregory Sergent officiating. Mrs. MacArthur died Friday, October 28, at Richmond Healthcare and Rehab, LLC, Richmond. Orma Katherine MacArthur was born August 9, 1913, at Oneida, KS, the daughter of Melvin and Cora (Luther) Carpenter. She lived in Missouri from 1938 to 1975 when she moved to Garnett, living there until 1982. At that time, she moved to Richmond where she lived until her death. Orma had worked as a trimmer in a shoe factory. Orma and Ernest Williams were married February 8, 1935, at Corning, KS. He preceded her in death. She married Ray MacArthur on June 28, 1981, at Garnett. He also preceded her in death. Mrs. MacArthur is survived by her stepson, Delmar MacArthur and his wife, Claudine, of Garnett; her daughter, Elsie Mae MacArthur and her husband, Larry, of Richmond; her stepdaughter, Dorothy Burget and her husband, Leroy, of Holton; five step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren. Adams, 88, Mannford, OK, formerly of Kincaid, were Tuesday, November 1, 2005, at Kincaid Selma United Methodist Church with Jerry Tinsley officiating. Interment was in Kincaid Cemetery. Mrs. Adams died Friday, October 28. Mae M. Adams was born April 23, 1917, the daughter of W.J. (Bill) and Minnie (Johnson) Ross at their home on the banks of Blackberry Creek near Asbury, MO. She attended school at Liberal Rural School, near Asbury, Independence, MO, and Fort Scott Junior High. She graduated from Kincaid Rural High School in 1935. She received her Master of Science degree and Bachelor’s degree in education and administration from Pittsburg State University. After her mother’s death in a car accident in 1931, her father married Naomi (Miller) Croan, who was a wonderful second mother until her death in 1984. Mae married John Quincy Adams, Jr. on November 27, 1940, at Pittsburg. They spent more than 50 years on a farm near Kincaid. She often said the greatest things that happened in her life was the arrival of their son, Randal Joe, born January 13, 1950, and their grandson, John Michael, born August 4, 1970. Mae was a member of the Kincaid Selma United Methodist Church, was a lifetime member of the Pittsburg State University Alumni, the Kansas State Teachers Association, and the National Teachers Association. She taught school for 39 years in the Kincaid and Colony area and had many happy memories of those days and the children that filled her life. Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by her parents, W.J. and Minnie Ross; her second mother, Naomi Ross; and her sisters, Laurene McAdam, Thelma Trigg, Betty Duncan, and Marjorie Dunlap. Mae is survived by her husband of 65 years, John Q. Adams, Jr., of the home; her son, Randal and his wife, Gerrie, of Mannford, OK; her grandsons, John of Guthrie, OK, Chris and Melissa Torkelson of Sand Springs, OK, and Craig and Tammy Torkelson of Mannford, OK; and her great-grandsons, Justin Adams of Guthrie, OK, and Kyle, Alex, and Scott Torkelson of Mannford, OK. This family brought much joy and happiness to Mae, and each of them had a special place in her heart. The scripture reading was provided by Mae’s great-grandson Alex Torkelson. Music was provided by Kathleen McCullam, harpist. Musical selections included “Ave Maria’ and ‘Amazing Grace’, provided by Mae’s great-grandson Kyle Torkelson. Casketbearers were Gary Rogers, Tom Rogers, Dennis Rogers, Shannon Underwood, Jeff McAdam, and Andy McAdam. Memorials may be made to the Kincaid Selma First United Methodist Church.
