Jim Uhlig officiating. Interment was in Colony Cemetery. Mrs. Ulrich died Thursday, November 3, at Windsor Place Nursing Center, Iola. Vera Marie Ulrich was born September 14, 1913, at Tyrone, OK, the daughter of Noah Philander and Annie Elizabeth (Carson) Newman. She spent most of her childhood in the Tyrone area, moving to Scott City, KS, during the Great Depression. The family later moved to Baldwin City, where she graduated from high school. On December 7, 1934, Vera married B. Keith Ulrich in Lawrence and they made their home on a farm near Colony until his death on March 3, 1974. She moved to Iola. Vera was active in the Diamond community and church when she was raising her family on the farm. After moving to Iola, she was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and was a volunteer Gray Lady at Allen County Hospital. She enjoyed growing flowers, her garden, card playing, and traveling with Good Will bus tours until her health failed. Mrs. Ulrich was also preceded in death by her son, Robert Keith Ulrich; her brothers, Bill and George; a twin infant brother; and a twin infant sister. Vera is survived by her son, William E. ‘Bill’ Ulrich and wife, Shirley, of Colony; her daughters, Mary LaCrone and husband, Don, and Shirley Robertson and husband, Larry, all of Gas; her brothers, Lee Newman of Baldwin City and John Newman of Lawrence; her sisters, Doris Norwood of Lawrence and Mary Hutchinson of Overland Park; nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; a number of step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchild. The family suggests memorials to the Iola Alzheimer’s Support Group or Wesley United Methodist Church. Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.” Page 5, Column 4: “Donavon Wayne Anderson 1968-2005 Funeral services for Donavon Wayne Anderson, 37, Tecumseh, were Saturday, November 5, 2005, at Penwell-Gable Parker-Price Chapel, Topeka. Interment was in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery, Big Springs. Mr. Anderson died Tuesday, November 1, at his home. Donavon Wayne Anderson was born June 28, 1968, at Topeka, the son of Edward Wayne and JoAnn Floy (Stephens) Anderson. He was a graduate of Shawnee Heights High School and DeVery Institute of Technology. Donavon was an audio-visual electronics technician at Smith Audio Visual. He was a member of the Northeast Kansas Astronomy Association and International Harvestor Collectors, National and State Chapter #3. He was also an avid storm chaser. Donavon is survived by his parents, Edward W. and JoAnn F. Anderson of the home; his sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Gary Hogan of Hutchinson; his paternal grandmother, Ida V. Anderson of Auburn; his niece, Meara Hogan of Hutchinson; six aunts; six uncles; and many cousins. Donavon’s mother is the former JoAnn Floy Stephens of Garnett and has many family members in the Garnett area.
