Graveside services followed at Westphalia City Cemetery in Westphalia. Mrs. Shipley died Monday, January 24, at Christian Care Cottage in Ottawa. Edith Helena Shipley was born April 23, 1903, at Quenemo, the daughter of Frank E. and Eva M. (Bennett) Windett. She grew up on a farm near Quenemo, and attended New Hope Grade School and Quenemo High School. She later moved with her family to Burlingame, and then to LeRoy. She worked on the family farm and gave piano lessons to the neighborhood children. Edith and Lorenzo Thomas Shipley were married February 23, 1936, at LeRoy. She was a homemaker after her marriage. She worked on the family farm near Westphalia, where she lived for 32 years. After the sale of the family farm, the couple moved into Westphalia, where they lived for 20 years. In 1978, the couple moved to Ottawa to be near their daughter. Edith was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Ottawa. Mrs. Shipley was preceded in death by her husband, Lorenzo, on January 8, 1979; her parents, Frank and Eva Windett; her brother, George L. Windett; and her step-son, Wilbur T. Shipley. Edith is survived by her daughter, Melva Ream of Ottawa; her son, Ronald Shipley of Emporia; five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to Christian Care Cottage. Van Arsdale Funeral Home, LeRoy, KS, was in charge of arrangements.” “Carl D. Giffin 1943-2005 Funeral services for Carl D. “Bus” Giffin, 61, Garnett, were Monday, January 31, 2005, at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel. Interment was in Garnett Cemetery.
