She was cremated and her ashes will be scattered at Nubles lighthouse off the coast of Maine. Rose Marie Smith was born April 16, 1925, at Dover, NH, the daughter of William Henry and Rose Marie (Foss) McKenna. She worked in a fish cannery. Rose and William Whitney Smith, Jr. were married May 24, 1946. They divorced on August 11, 1960. He preceded her in death in 1986. Mrs. Smith was also preceded in death by her brothers, Phillip E. McKenna and Lawrence McKenna. Rose is survived by her sons, Philip W. Smith of Garnett, J. Lamar Smith of Lee’s Summit, MO, Marc I. Smith of Denver, CO, and Christopher Batozick of Joliet, IL; her sister, Catherine Rita McKenna-Davis of South Burwick, ME; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society. Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapels was in charge of arrangements.” “Dorothy Schulz 1922-2005 Graveside services and interment for Dorothy Schulz, 83, Ottawa, were Saturday, November 26, 2005, at Ruhamah Cemetery in Rantoul. Mrs. Schulz died Monday, November 21, at Olathe Medical Center in Olathe. Dorothy Schulz was born September 6, 1922, at Rantoul, the daughter of Ira Thomas and Cecelia Esther (O’Brien) Gregg. She grew up in Rantoul and always lived in Franklin County, except for four years in Texas during World War II. She moved to Ottawa in the late 1950’s. She attended the Church of the Brethren in Ottawa. Dorothy was a homemaker. On April 5, 1941, Dorothy was united in marriage with John Carl Schulz at Ottawa. They later divorced. Mrs. Schulz was preceded in death by her parents, Ira Thomas and Cecelia Esther Gregg; her brothers, James Harold Gregg and Ira Thomas Gregg, Jr.; two infant brothers and one infant sister; and her sisters, Elsie Higdon and Ethel Kem. Dorothy is survived by her sons, John Carl Schulz, Jr. of Topeka, Richard Dale Schulz of Boise, ID, and Gary Thomas Schulz and Dennis Wayne Schulz, both of Ottawa; her granddaughters, Megan Bones and Leigh Schulz; her grandsons, Richard M. Schulz and Christopher Schulz; and her great-grandchildren, Kaelin Bones and Ryan Bones. Dengel and Son Mortuary, Ottawa, was in charge of arrangements.” Page A-5, Column 2: “Velma Lucille Monnard 1912-2005 Funeral services for Velma Lucille Monnard, 93, Garnett, were Tuesday, November 22, 2005, at First Presbyterian Church in Madison, KS, with Pastor George Pasley officiating. Interment was in Blakely Cemetery, Madison. Mrs. Monnard died Friday, November 18, at Golden Heights Living Center, Garnett. Lucille Monnard was born November 9, 1912, at Madison, the daughter of Ben and Lena (Hale) Sturgeon. She lived most of her life in the Madison community. She graduated from Madison High School in 1930 and from Wichita Business College in 1931. Lucille married Francis Monnard on June 9, 1934, at Topeka. They lived most of their life in Madison. From 1967 to 1971, she was employed as a residence hall director at the College of Emporia, and in 1980 they moved to Garnett to be near their daughter, Carol. Throughout her life, Lucille was an active member of the Presbyterian Church, well known for her angel food cakes, noodles, and holiday sugar cookies. She took great interest in the church’s missions, and was very active in Bloodmobile visits. She was a Den Mother and a member of the Mother’s Council. Lucille was a very faithful letter writer to family and friends, with a graceful hand into her 90’s. Mrs. Monnard was preceded in death by her husband, Francis; her parents, Ben and Lena Sturgeon; her sister, Opal Frazier; and one great-grandchild, Robyn Anne McSpadden. Lucille is survived by her daughter, Carol Foltz and her husband, Charlie, of Garnett; and her sons, Gary Monnard of Davenport, IA, and Richard Monnard, also of Garnett; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Music was provided by Pauline Baxter, organist. Musical selections included ‘In The Garden’ and ‘Faith Of Our Fathers’. Casketbearers were Larry McIlvain, Clayton McIlvain, Gale Schroeder, Wayne Callen, Paul James, and Bill Emch. Cremation followed the funeral service. A memorial service in his honor was held Friday, November 25, at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel in Colony. Mr. Gillaspie died Saturday, November 19, at Carmel, IN. Steve Alan Gillaspie was born May 13, 1953, at Iola, the son of George and Rosemary (McCollam) Gillaspie. He grew up in Kincaid and attended schools in Lone Elm and Kincaid before graduating from Crest High School in 1971. He attended the University of Kansas earning an M.B.A. in 1979. He worked for Osram Sylvania as a systems manager. Steve and Connie Gordon were married August 1973, at Colony. She survives, of the home. He is also survived by his son, Tyler Bradford Gillaspie of the home; his daughter, Cameron Leigh Gillaspie of the home; his parents, George and Rosemary Gillaspie of rural Kincaid; his brothers, Mike Gillaspie of Overland Park, David Gillaspie of Ottawa, Dennis Gillaspie of Topeka, Kevin Gillaspie of Lawrence, Scott Gillaspie of Overland Park, Tom Gillaspie of Ellisville, MO, and Dan Gillaspie of Lawrence; and his sisters, Nancy Gillaspie of Independence, MO, Anna Spears of Santa Barbara, CA, and Mary Feltz of Lawrence.
