Isabella A. Dougherty After several weeks of patient suffering, Mrs. I. A. Dougherty passed peacefully to her reward last Tuesday afternoon, and the city and the community suffer a great loss and mourn her departure, and sympathize with those bereaved. Mrs. Dougherty was a remarkable woman and a doer of things without a parallel in this community. Following the death of her husband she assumed active management of the household, and has been an active figure in the community. She was possessed with untiring industry and a courageous heart that surmounted all obstacles. When it was first known that she was dangerously ill, a friend remarked that if she did not overcome death it would be the first thing that she never overcame. She probably did more than any other one person to advertise Anderson county products. Her exhibits at county, state and neighboring fairs were wonders in variety, beauty, taste, and excellence, and many were the prizes she brought home and plentiful the praises she received for her work. When her last illness came upon her she was preparing an exhibit for the state fair, and we fear that her zeal caused her to overtax her strength. She was a Christian woman of education and refinement, a dutiful wife, a devoted mother, a loyal friend, a patriotic and enterprising citizen. Isabella Amelia McNeil was born in Vermillion county, Indiana, August 17th, 1842, and died at the home of her son, Frank, in Kincaid, Kansas, August 15th, 1911, aged 68 years, 11 months and 28 days. Her father died the following year and she moved with her mother to Vermillion county, Ill., where she spent her girlhood, was educated and taught school. She was converted to Christianity early in life, united with the M. E. church and lived a consistent Christian life always. She was united in marriage with Francis L. Dougherty May 9, 1876. Four children were born to their union. She is survived by three sons, Lyman C., of Spokane, Wash., and Charles E. and Frank L., of Kincaid, and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Shultz, of Fairmount, Ill. Funeral services were held at the M. E. church August 17th, which was the anniversary of her birth, and were attended by many of her old friends.
