J. Reynolds died at his home southeast of this city last Friday evening about 7 o'clock. His end was as peaceful as his life had been. He was at the supper table and had just pushed back his chair when he expired. He was second oldest man in the township, and as he had been feeble and ill for some time his death occasioned little surprise, but much regret. Deceased has always been old to the writer and we have always regarded him as one of the Grand Old Men of the times, and his passing appeals to us like the falling of a giant tree in the forest--a giant that had towered far about its surrounding environment and withstood the elements and the erosion and decay that time brings to all matter, only to fall at last. As a man and citizen N. J. Reynolds had no superiors and few peers. He represented the highest type of citizenship and manhood and stood firmly for the things that are right. His home life was ideal. He raised a large family and set an example that his children have followed. He was a kind husband and neighbor. His life has been long and useful and he died honored, loved and respected by the community in which he had lived so long. Those left bereaved have the sympathy of the community. Nathaniel Joseph Reynolds was born in Munfordsville, Hart county, Kentucky, Sept. 2, 1824, and died at his home near Kincaid, Kans., Aug. 15, 1913, aged 88 years, 11 months and 13 days. He moved to Monmouth, Warren county, Ill., in 1842, and on Oct. 12, 1851 was married to Lucy Jane Lieurance. Eight children were born to this union, one of which died in infancy. Five children, 19 grandchildren, and 10 great grand-children, an aged sister and two half brothers survive. He came to this county in 1873. He served the county as commissioner one term. He united with the Christian church at an early age and lived a consistent Christian life to the end. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church last Sunday morning at 10 o'clock and were conducted by Rev. Henry Martin of Princeton, and were attended by a large number of friends who came to pay their last tribute of respect to their departed friend. At the conclusion of the services at the church, interment was made at the city cemetery.
