Obituary of ABIGAIL KITTERMAN
Columbus Robertson has just returned from Urbana where he buried his mother, Mrs. Abigail Kitterman, at the age of 81. She was the first white woman who lived in Elm Township. She settled on the Gifford farm 43 years ago, where not another house was to be found east of Lyman Rhodes farm "The Northrup Homestead" until the Fort Scott vicinity was reached.
(Note--Per the Neosho County History Abigail Kitterman and her husband Michael, along with their children were the first settlers in Canville Township, having arrived from Wapello Co., Ia. in 1857.
