Obituary of PETER ERIC CARLSON

Peter Eric Carlson was born in Tyslinge Soken, Orebro Lan, Jan. 22, 1839 and died near Angola, Kans., Nov. 6, 1917, aged 78 years, 9 months, and 24 days. He was married to Gustava Meijer, Oct. 12, 1864 in Nora, Sweden. To this wedlock of 54 years and 24 days, was born four sons and two daughters.
He is survived by his wife, son Dell, of Angola, Kans, Frank, of Chapman, Kans, daughters, Mrs. Esther Johnson, of Las Animas, Colo, and Mrs. Hattie Traxson of Angola, Kans. Nine grand-daughters, eleven
grandsons, one great grand daughter, and one nephew, Charles Setterquist, of Randolph, Kans. One brother and one sister are living
in Sweden. One son died at Manhattan, Kans., aged one year and one son, Oscar, died at Kansas City, Mo., aged 22 years.

He emigrated to Curitiba, Parana province, Brazil, in 1868, but came to Keokuk, Ia, in 1869 and to Manhattan, Kans., in 1870, where he worked at his trade as blacksmith. Geo. Page of this city was a fellow workman with him at Manhattan. After six years at Manhattan, the family moved to Mariadahl, Kans., where they lived for eleven years.
The spirit of the Pioneer would not be stilled, so the family moved to Conejos County, in southwestern Colorado, on the place where he died. When age began to make itself felt, he decided to abandon his trade
and he and his wife moved to Randolph, Kans., where he lived for nine years, but the desire to be near some of his married children caused him to return to the old homestead.

Since 1877 he had been a faithful member of the Baptist church until his residence in Randolph, when he affiliated with the Swedish Mission Church, of which he was a member at the time of his death.

He was buried beside his son and grand children in Richland Cemetery. Rev. J.R. Hankins preached the funeral sermon.

He was a man of peace, loving his family devotedly, and anxious to serve his neighbors to the best of his ability. He practiced an everyday religion that won for him a host of friends. The large number in attendance at his funeral gave evidence of the esteem in which he was held by his friends.
