Funeral Card of JACOB B. SCHAFER
Jacob B. Schafer, son of Carl and Katherine (Stoll) Schafer, was born April 3, 1886, at Bonn, Russia. He departed this life on February 4, 1973, at the Russell City Hospital after several months of failing health. His age was 86 years 10 months and 1 day.

Jacob was baptized as an infant and confirmed as a young man into the Lutheran faith and he continued to consider the Lutheran Church as his church home.

Jacob came to this country in 1902 and settled in Barton County. On June 20, 1907, he was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Brack at LaCross, Kansas. This union was blessed with two sons, Elmer and Arlo; and seven daughters, Irene, Nima, Alvina, Isabell, Rachel, Florence and LaFern. The family spent most of their life farming in Barton County, around Otis, Kansas. Besides his farming activities, Jacob was also active in oil field work until he retired. In 1948 they moved to Russell, Kansas, to make their home.

Jacob was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, who died August 29, 1969; one infant son, Arlo Alexander; another son, Elmer; one daughter, Mrs. Ben Ummel; and one brother Carl.

Survivors include his six daughters, Mrs. Sieg (Irene) Morgenstern and Mrs. Reinhold (Alvina) Wegele, both of Russell, Mrs. Conrad (Nima) Krom and Mrs. Walter (Florence) Stieben, both of Great Bend, Mrs. Ray (Isabell) Huschka of Ellinwood, and Mrs. Norman (LaFern) Sharkey of Hutchinson; also 19 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
