Funeral Card of MARY ELIZABETH SCHAFER
Mary Elizabeth Schafer, daughter of Henry and Mary (Ochs) Brack, was born May 30, 1885 in Barton County, Kansas. She passed away suddenly on August 29, 1969 at the age of 84 years, 2 months, and 29 days.

Mary was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith as a child in the Otis, Kansas Lutheran Church. On June 20, 1907 she was united in marriage to Jacob B. Schafer at LaCrosse, Kansas. This union was blessed with two sons Arlo Alexander and Elmer, and 7 daughters, Irene, Nima, Alvina, Isabell, Rachel, Florence, and LaFern. The family spent most of their life farming in Barton ounty around Otis, Kansas. Mary's lifetime was lived with concern for her family, and the pride she had being a homemaker was apparent to all. In 1948 they moved to Russell, Kansas to make their home. St. John Lutheran Church of Russell, Kansas was the family church affiliation after they moved to town.

Mrs. Schafer was preceded in death by one infant son, Arlo Alexander, and one daughter, Mrs. Ben Ummel, and on August 3 of this year her other son Elmer preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Jacob of the home, and her six daughters, Mrs. Sig (Irene) Morgenstern and Mrs. Reinhold (Alvina) Wegele, both of Russell; Mrs. Conrad (Nima) Krom and Mrs. Walter (Florence) Stieben, both of Great Bend; Mrs. Ray (Isabell) Huschka of Ellinwood and Mrs. Norman (LaFern) Sharkey of Hutchinson. Also 19 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
