Schmeling, Francena Harned Hudson

Francena G. Schmeling, 74, Walla Walla, Washington, formerly of Atchison, died Saturday following a short illness.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Christ Lutheran Church with burial at Milton Freewater Cemetery, Walla Walla. Memorials are suggested to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.

Mrs. Schmeling was born Dec. 23, 1911, in Atchison, the daughter of David Lewis and Julia Ann Barry Harned.

She married Charles Henry Hudson in 1927. He preceded her in death in 1948. In 1950, she married Albert W. Schmeling, a well-known area contractor. He died in1971.

Mrs. Schmeling was a member of Martha Washington Chapter 215, Order of the Eastern Star, the Lady Elks and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.

She moved to Walla Walla in 1972 and maintained a summer home at Sugar Lake.

Survivors include three daughters, Julia Sture, Kansas City, Virginia Harrison, Walla Walla, and Nancy Ann Gamboa, Redondo Beach, Calif.; Three brothers, Harold Harned, Newton Iowa, Leo Harned, Palmdale, Calif., and Arthur Harned, New Port Tichey, Fla.; one sister, Viola Payne, Walla Walla; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
