Mrs. Julia Ann Harned, 74, widow of D. L. Harned, died at 9:45 a. m. today at the Atchison Hospital, where she was taken following a heart attack shortly after Sunday midnight.

She was born in Atchison Feb. 16, 1881, a daughter of Henry and Margaret Murphy Barry, and lived all her life here. Her father was an early-day wagon maker in Atchison and was a native of Ireland.

She married June 27, 18918, to D. L. Harned, who preceded her in death Jan. 11, 1953. He was a retired Missouri Pacific employee. At the time of their marriage he was a cook in a restaurant. Later he was a brickyard foreman and before entering the railroad service was a foreman for the Land Construction Co. of St. Joe and put down a great many Atchison brick streets.

Surviving are eight children: David Harned, Venison, Calif.; Leo Harned, Palmsdale, Calif.; Mrs. Joe Donalds and Mrs. Vernon Payne, Walla Walla, Wash.; Harold Harned, Newson, Iowa; Mrs. Laura Goll, Enid, Okla.; Arthur Harned and Mrs. Al Schmeling, Atchison. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Katie Dahlke, Atchison, 21 grandchildren and 23 great grand children.

She was a member of St. Benedict's Church, the Altar Society, and the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

Funeral arrangements are pending. The body is at the Sawin-Dyer Mortuary.
